PLACES YOU CAN KNIT
Follow along on our weekly MUSKOKA BOUND 2026 summer series as I highlight my favorite places to sit and knit with a featured colourway hand dyed and inspired by twelve special destinations in cottage country.

Did you know? On a clear night in Muskoka far from any light pollution, you can see up to 2,500 individual stars and the faint glowing band of the Milky Way Galaxy stretching across the sky.

This week we visit a special place known as 'Torrance Barrens Dark Sky Preserve', sitting on 5,000 pristine acres outside of Gravenhurst. Designated as the world's first dark sky preserve in 1999, the landscape is a stargazer's dream with a wide open viewing area set upon a base of two billion year old Precambrian granite. The flat lunarlike surface creates a solid vibration-free base for setting up telescopes, surrounded by wetlands for viewing wildlife. Well-marked hiking and biking trails let visitors explore the area before sunset, bring a chair to sit and knit and then all eyes are on the sky for a fascinating celestial show.
Location: Southwood Rd in Gravenhurst.

This week's MUSKOKA BOUND colourway is DARK SKY, inspired by stargazing in Torrance.

PLACES YOU CAN KNIT
Follow along on our weekly MUSKOKA BOUND 2026 summer series as I highlight my favorite places to sit and knit with a featured colourway hand dyed and inspired by twelve special destinations in cottage country.

Under a clear blue sky, we head out to the charming village of Baysville, tucked along the narrows of the Muskoka River where it meets Lake of Bays. Summer activity is focused along the riverfront where a self-guided interpretive walking trail blends logging era history with the natural river scenery. There are plenty of places to dip your toes in the cool water, throw a line in or just sit and knit while watching the water flow through the dam. Further up river, you will find Grist Mill Park, a quiet setting bordered by perennial gardens and public boat docks.

Visitors flock to the ice cream hut at Miss Nelle's Antiques and Cafe on sweltering days, this quaint shop operates out of a 1872 heritage building and is a busy summer spot with a cosy main floor café, local baked goods, and an upstairs dedicated to antique browsing.

This week's MUSKOKA BOUND colourway is RIVERWALK, inspired by the heritage walking trail along the Muskoka River in Baysville.
