👋 I’m Helen and I run Oaktree and Maple here on Bowen Island, BC, Canada.

This is my spider plant.

It’s one of the only real plants in my house because although I LOVE nature and all things that grow, unfortunately I am a plant killer.

Seriously, they come over the threshold and immediately turn up their leafy little toes!

But not this guy! 3 years and going strong!

Sure, he’s a little on the small side. But he’s alive. And he’s getting bigger.

Here are 3 cool factoids about spider plants you may not have known:
🕷Spider plants are actually a herb.
🕷They are native to the African tropics and southern Africa.
🕷They’re a member of the asparagus family (but I maybe wouldn’t eat one!)

We love copper!

Did you know, copper is the oldest metal ore and is a pure, natural metal with many properties.

By wearing copper, the minerals are slowly absorbed by the skin meaning it can be beneficial for healing.

It is also a natural antibacterial and can help reduce inflammation, arthritis, headaches, and improve digestion.

So, it’s not just pretty.
It’s pretty awesome!

Aren’t they beautiful?

They go by a number of other names too: Witches' Gloves, Fairy's Glove, Fairy Caps and Fairy Thimbles, to name but a few.

Apparently they’re poisonous, but only if you eat them, so our advice is look but don’t touch!

And that certainly would explain one of their other names: Dead Men’s Bells... 👀😱☠️

On the whole, we think we’ll maybe just use them for inspiration and keep our distance!
