In getting ready to celebrate Remembrance Day here's another book which sold recently. "Extraordinary Women Extraordinary Times" honours the women who served in the Canadian military. The book shares the accounts of sixty women who served during the Second World War.

One aspect of this sale that makes me happy is that it sold in less than a week. Clearly people are anxious to give women veterans the recognition they deserve.

With Remembrance Day approaching I thought I would share some of the books that sold recently that cover the history of Canadian Forces personnel and operations. Though we have a tendency to think of the World Wars on Remembrance Day, these two books are on operations since the end of the Cold War.

"The Ghosts of Medak Pocket", located in Croatia in 1993, describes the most significant fighting the Canadian Army had seen since the Korean War, forty years earlier.

In "No Lack of Courage", Colonel Bernd Horn relates the story of Operation Medusa conducted in Afghanistan in September, 2006.

When I'm out sourcing, I always like when I am able to procure books on Canadian military history and make them available to help keep these stories alive.

This October is the 70th anniversary of Hurricane Hazel an historic storm that ravaged the eastern portion of North America including Ontario. I must confess that I wasn't even aware that this date was approaching when we listed for sale the book "Hurricane Hazel" by Betty Kennedy early in the summer. Well, someone did, and purchased it in time for the anniversary. As you could imagine from some of our earlier posts we are Lord of the Rings fans and are currently enjoying the Rings of Power series on Prime. The series draws greatly from The Silmarillion. We had an extra copy of the UK First Edition and decided to sell it on E-Bay. It was recently purchased by someone in Ireland as a gift to his brother on his birthday. Nothing like sharing the joy of Middle Earth around the world!

With hockey season underway for another year I thought it might be a good time to look at some of the hockey themed books that sold over the summer.

The title of this book is very clear about its topic - "The Code: The Unwritten Rules of Fighting and Retaliation in the NHL". Written in 2006 the book has a 3.7/5 rating on Goodreads with almost 500 ratings. Clearly endorsed by its intended audience. The book "takes you in-depth and behind the scenes to explore the history of fighting during hockey games and the honor system behind it. More than 50 NHL players, coaches, and media personalities were interviewed to examine how players go about their business during a fight on the ice."
