🌾 A glimpse into the past… right here on Schubert Road.

We recently came across this incredible old photo of a neighbouring farm and it made us all smile. The land looks familiar… the work feels familiar… and yet so much has changed.

Farming in the Armstrong–Spallumcheen area has deep roots. In the late 1800s, early settlers worked these same fields with horses and hand tools, growing a mix of grain, vegetables, and raising livestock to support their families and the growing community. When the railway arrived, local farms began feeding not just the valley, but communities far beyond.

By the early 1900s, this area earned the nickname “Celery City,” as farmers transformed wetland into rich, productive soil, growing vegetables that were shipped across the country. After the war years, dairy farming became a cornerstone here—shaped in part by Dutch immigrants who brought with them a strong tradition of farming and cheese-making that still influences the region today.

And here we are… generations later.

Different equipment, new technologies, but the same land, the same seasons, and the same commitment to growing healthy food.

It’s not lost on us how fortunate we are to live and work in a place where agriculture isn’t just history . . . it’s still very much alive.

Henry is a bold and curious guy looking for a good home. He can be a bit unsure of people at times, but he is very passionate about food. Having been housed in rough conditions before coming into our care, we are recommending keeping Henry on a tailored diet to keep him nice and healthy.

We are ideally looking for a home that can take both Henry and Vincent in, as they’ll do best together.

🌷 With the days getting longer and spring on its way, spring cleaning is just around the corner!

🪺 Wild baby season has started, which means you may have birds or mammals nesting or denning in your yard. Bird nests can be difficult to spot (especially hummingbird nests, which can be as tiny as a toonie!), so it is important to be wildlife-aware while trimming trees, mowing the lawn, and more!
