Every Groovy ger arrives as a kit, hand-made by a family of craftspeople in Mongolia. Here's what's inside, by its real name.

Toono: the crown at the top, connecting earth and sky Bagaans: the central poles that hold the toono Huns: the rafters Khaanas: the lattice walls that open like an accordion Felt: a full layer of sheep's wool insulation Covers, horse-hair ropes and a hand-painted double door.

The one thing that doesn't come from Mongolia? Your platform. Gers sit on a deck, not in the ground, and we can help you with that part too.

Save this for the next time someone asks what a yurt is made of.

What happens when a Japanese joinery master moves into a Mongolian yurt? 👀

Meet Caleb, a Groovy yurt owner who builds in the style of sashimono, the Japanese art of joinery so precise the wood locks into place on its own.

Once his yurt was up, he got to work: a canopy bed carved with a traditional key pattern, hand-cut screens, and little bedside shelves, every piece made to match the hand-painted details overhead.

Japanese craft meets Mongolian tradition, and it's one of the most beautiful yurt interiors we've seen. Swipe through. 👉

Soup & cozy socks season is officially here. 🍂

Out at the Groovy farm, the fields have turned gold, the afternoons are getting shorter, and the best seat in the house is by the window with a good book.

Funny thing about yurt life: choosing one is a step outside most people's comfort zone… and then it quietly becomes their favourite one.

So tell us, what does your perfect cozy fall afternoon look like? 👇

Which yurt colour speaks to your soul? Once you’ve picked a colour, we’ll tell you what it means about you (no peeking below). This is 100% scientifically accurate.

🟡 Yellow: Big energy, first one on the dance floor, last one to leave. Turns any gathering into an event and somehow remembers everyone's name.

🔵 Blue: Calm, a little mysterious, always seems to know more than they're letting on. The friend everyone calls when they need real advice, not just sympathy.

🟤 Natural Wood: No frills, no fuss, just good bones and great taste. Doesn't chase trends because they know they'll come back around eventually. Quietly the coolest one in the room.

🟠 Orange: Warm, bold, a little unpredictable in the best way. Somehow always ends up being the centre of attention without ever really trying to be.

🔴 Red: All in, all the time. Passionate, a little dramatic, makes decisions fast and never looks back. No regrets, only good stories.

🌈 Rainbow: Creative, colourful, and 100% comfortable doing things your own way. Your favourite expression: why not both?

Tell us your colour in the comments, and tag a friend whose colour you already know!

This design has handled winters as cold as -50 in Mongolia… and more recently in the Yukon, so your average Canadian cold snap isn’t going to be a problem.

Wool felt insulation holds heat and naturally manages humidity, and running your stove pipe straight up through the toono spreads warmth through the whole space optimally.

A couple rules of thumb: size your stove to heat about 3x your yurt's square footage, and lean on a local stove expert who actually knows wood heat (don't just guess).

A Groovy customer sent us pics of his 22' natural wood yurt Yves delivered this past summer, which they set up at a 7,000 ft. elevation close to Zion National Park in Utah. They made a family project of building the platform and the deck (see photos). They are still working on a few finishing details, but now the family will be able to wake up to these spectacular vistas all year round.

"We absolutely love it and are really glad we were able to catch you during your delivery trip and make it work. The craftsmanship really is beautiful. We especially love the natural wood, horsehair ropes, and the overall traditional, natural feel of it. It fits the setting even better than we had hoped."

"We’re excited to spend more time in it and are planning to use it for meditation, sunset and stargazing experiences, and possibly some small retreats focused on things like photography and painting."

Meet the engineer who didn't just help design the True Canadian Yurt, she moved into it. Meet Kady.

Kady is a materials engineer on our team, and she's the reason our roof does something most yurts don't. Instead of running beams straight to one centre point, hers run clockwise and counterclockwise: what's called a reciprocal roof. It's stronger, doesn't rely on a central pole, and meets building code across most of Ontario.

Then she tested her own design the honest way, by actually living in it. She’s been steadily building out the kitchen and washroom herself, turning the space from prototype into an actual, permanent, year-round home in Ontario.

We drive 10,000+ km a year for this. Worth every kilometre.

It all starts with Baata and his family in Mongolia. Every ger is hand-built and hand-painted from tamarack, Siberian pine & pure sheep wool, the same way Mongolian families have made their homes for 3,000 years.
Once it's ready, we load up and bring it the rest of the way to your door. 🧡

And because every yurt starts with the land, we give a little back: 25 trees planted for every one sold. 🌲

The leaves are starting to steal the spotlight, but don't let your yurt get lost in all that pretty chaos. A few fall check-ins should be done before winter soon knocks on your door:

Give the canvas a once-over for rips, stains or mould. Trim back any branches getting a little too friendly with your walls. Snug up ropes and straps so they're doing their job. And if your door or toono wood is looking worn, now's the time for a coat of varnish.

An hour or two today beats a soggy surprise in spring.
