Logos Bookstore and Jeremy T. Sweeting invites you to a book signing event this coming Saturday from 11am - 2pm for his book "The House of Assembly" A definitive history of the Bahamas House of Assembly from it's beginning in 1729 up to 1900.

Vol 1 of what will be a 2 Volume set on the history of the House of Assembly.
And it’s not just a history on the House of Assembly per se, but a general history of the Bahamas intertwined with the happenings of the Assembly and how the legislature dealt with the issues of the day- whether it was piracy, slavery, religious freedoms, blockade running, agriculture and so much more. There are many photographs/paintings of parliamentarians who served in the 18th and 19th centuries included in this work.
The book deals with various scandals of the day as Vol 1 covers from 1729 when the Assembly was first established by our first Governor Woodes Rogers and the book concludes at 1900. The Bahamas boasts of the 4th oldest legislature in the Western Hemisphere.
The second volume when finished, will pick up at 1901-present day.

Rassin has served in every major post in the world’s largest community-based organization. He has travelled the globe, spent years in leadership roles including growing the former Rassin Hospital, now Doctors Hospital, into the largest privately-owned and now publicly-held medical facility in The Bahamas.

But the role he shares in the book is that of a very personal journey as son of the man who brought modern medicine to The Bahamas, Meyer Rassin, a man who saved hundreds, if not thousands of lives, yet a man whose shadow was hard to live in, his demands hard to ignore, a force of nature with the strength and grit of a giant redwood, yet tender to the point of writing 250 love letters to his wife during the war years when they were apart. Rassin’s discovery of those letters long after his father’s murder helped inspire the book that is a fascinating look at the personal stories of a famous family against the backdrop of a newly emerging independent nation, starting before the days of Independence and ending in an era of challenges with which we all identify.
