As so many of you have kindly asked about Scupper’s recent health issues, I asked Joanna of Ettrick to compose this reel.
I am eternally grateful to the entire team at Ettrick Animal Hospital for saving his life a second time. Yes, they saved him in May 2025.
Dr. Craig Horton, Dr. Rachel Lawrence and Dr. Adam Harrop all contributed to ensuring Scupper was stable enough to make the journey to Angell Hospital in Boston.Upon hearing I had no one to help us to Boston, Dr. Andrew Madeiros insisted his Head Nurse, Jen Busby accompany Scupper and me. This type of kindness is unheard of the days. Without Nurse Jen at our side on BermudAir, Scupper would not have made it to Angell. And without the kindness of Mr. Adam Scott of BermudAir, Scupper would not have been permitted to travel in the cabin. We travelled in the hold of BermudAir in 2025, but Scupper was too ill to travel in the hold this year. A huge thank you goes to Dr. Nisbett of the Department of the Environment. Dr. Nisbett ensured Scupper met all the requirements needed to travel to and from Bermuda without incident. I purchased Scupper his own seat on BermudAir and asked to be seated at the rear of the plane so as to be away from other passengers. BermudAir permitted us to board early as I did not want to upset non dog people on the flight. Scupper’s sister, Marlie, provided him with a life saving blood transfusion the day before we travelled. Marlie’s parents, Craig (Bubbles) and Lauren Darrell did not hesitate to say yes when I asked if Marlie could donate blood to Scupper. Just one more example of unheard of kindness these days. Nurse Jen’s professional expertise and caring nature ensured both Scupper and I made it through some very dark moments. I am pleased to report Scupper’s health has improved dramatically. He is back to his normal self, barking at everyone on the Railway Trail, chasing ducks and turning a deaf ear to anything I ask him to do🙄 Thank you Bermuda. As Hubert Smith sang, “Bermuda is another world.” Scupper and Debbie
