Shaping the tails.

Pre-voicing of new hammerheads with natural felt for a K. Kawai rebuild. The hammerheads are clamped in my custom jig. I prefer pre-voicing without shanks, but in this case I needed to work a little different. As I drill the hammerheads myself, the tails are not yet rounded in the factory, which makes for a better grip in de jig. After pre-voicing, the hammerheads are sanded and ready for shaping the tail and calibrating.

Fixing a squeaky sustain pedal. I cleaned the damper springs with alcohol. Sometimes people use some lubricants but usually these also harden and start making noise. I removed some dampers to remove the hinges of the damper lever. Usually only removing the base hinge is enough because it is placed in the other direction of the other hinges to lock it, but here there was nog enough space to slide it oud, so I had to remove all the hinges. I polished the lever, cleaned it and reassembled the parts. Problem solved. I’m not a fan of using (much) lubricants. Most of the time if not always when all the parts are clean and smooth there are no noises in the action. After this of course some regulations have to be done.
