TERRE de JAFFNA is finally here; a bottled memoir capturing the timeless soul of the palmyra coast where crimson earth meets the Indian Ocean. Crafted as an intimate olfactory impression, this fragrance awakens with the nostalgic petrichor of solar-treated red soil kissed by the first monsoon rains, unfurls into the intoxicating night-blooming white blossoms of jasmine and temple flowers, and lingers with a sea-weedy ocean breeze.

Ingredients/notes:

Base: Silani Sandalwood, Australian Sandalwood, Patchouli, Gill Mitti attar (in Sandalwood), Geosmin, slight touch of Vanilla, Seaweed abs. and the mighty 3% white Ambergris resinoid.

Heart: Jasmine Sambac Abs., Temple flower, Orchid, Gardenia, Lotus, slight touch of Palm and Coconut.

Top: Light spices mix; i.e., Coriander seed, Ajwain, etc. crowned with Ylang abs.

Le Centre CUBIQUE

Le Centre Cubique takes its name from geometry and geography; the "black cube" a.k.a. Ka'bah, standing at what has long been called the world's golden mean, the still point all else turns around.

This is not an "Attar al-Ka'bah"; neither I have the audacity nor could any bottle hold that. Rather, it is a bow, a prostration facing towards it - nothing more claimed, nothing sacred replicated, but a token of humble submission.

Terre de Jaffna
The terrior of the palmyra coast

With the crimson earth, long parched beneath a relentless tropical sun, only to surrender its hidden soul at the very first touch of rain,

With the petrichor rising from the red-soil peninsula, carrying whispers of forgotten monsoons and stories buried beneath centuries of salt-water splash and sea-weedy breeze, chanelled through the veins of the territory,

With the waxen white blossoms of jasmine, temple flowers and nocturnal blooms, opening not merely to the evening, but to memory itself,

With the endless sighs of the Indian Ocean, laden with drifting tides, embracing the land where palmyra stands unwavering against time,

With the roots of the ancient palms reaching deep into the earth, drawing not only water but the very essence of a land that has endured, flourished and remembered,

With every droplet returning to the soil from which fragrance, life and longing are born again, an eternal conversation between rain, earth, blossom and sea,

How about bottling the conversation as a memoir (an imagination) in the honor of the palmyra coast. TERRE de JAFFNA, my olfactory impression of the rain kissed soil-soul of Jaffna region, Sri Lanka; where rain awakens the earth, white blossoms perfume the wind, and the sea leaves its signature upon every breath.

I am sure you do not want to miss this memoir poetry, the song of the rain, breeze and earth, captured in a tiny bottle.

Details regarding the background, inspiration, formulation and ingredients will be published soon with a possible Bengali Poem ;)
