1 Volcano is an early take on Soufriere in Montserrat. Elizabethh Best - Barbed Wire - recently released Riffing about Survival among the Bearded Fig Trees of Ichirouganaim

2 Jenny Ann Lynch updated this collection (I forget when). Honor Forde Smith - Cousin Honnuh - put together the classic Lionheart Gal with the Sistren Collective. She continues struggling for a better Cribbean.

3 E A Markham - I hesitate to say from Montserrat but I don't know that everyone knows that. One small piece of a very large oeuvre. Sunday Blues - Paul Layne died in his early twenties in a car crash. Companion of Robert Lee andĀ DenisĀ Foster.

4. Nostalgia is a collection from 2010. Passover is a single sheet, folded with just one poem and a linocut illustration.

5 Saint-John P***e from Guadeloupe. Mervyn Morris is Mervyn Morris, everybody know him. This is the original 1976 edition, cover and illustrations by Lorna Goodison. Reprinted by Dangaroo Press 1998

6 Ras Moses is from Dominica. Mike Richards transformed into Aja.

7 Collection from Suriname, edited by Srinivasi. Alfred Clarke was born Trinidad `1912. The collection is from 1943. We been writing poetry before yesterday.

8 Jonathan Small committed su***de. He wrote this and Death of a Pineapple Salad. In Depts by Tony Kellman, with an introduction by Kamau.

9 and 10 Collections by kind, (mostly) elderly, (mostly) church-going ladies. These might well be their only ever publications.

Julia Alvarez - Time of the Butterflies is seminal, and a well constructed tale.
Erna Brodber is Erna Brodber. Period. Jane and Louisa is worthy of any to be read list.
Valerie Belgrave was in the Sir George Williams U Computer Centre thing. Some of you, I'm sure, are too young to know about that but it created change. See Ronald Cummings and Nalini Mohabir - The Fire This Time; and Dennis Forsythe - Let The Ni***rs Burn.
Delores Craig I don't know, nor Nel Crawford. Ask Nailah Imoja - she published Nel.

not that Naipaul is all that scarce but he is here because while not the world most pleasant person Mr. Biwas is still a very very good book

Neville Dawes should probably be better known and Mendes is more of a politician but this is a seminal book

Follow this closely.

The young man walks in. He's from Poland. He chooses holiday locations by where the bookshops are. He's in BDS because of Black Rock Books [I swear. He said so.] He heads straight for the Caribbean literature and the Kamau titles. Because in Poland you can find only two articles on Kamau in Polish.

So are you teaching in Poland? Yes, but I'm teaching medicine.

I'm practically beginning to take these things in stride.
