Today, March 22nd, marks World Water Day. π We are all aware of how important water is for life but are we taking care to conserve it as much as possible?
Here are some ways that you can save water while gardening:
1. Check and replace hose washers if needed- washers can become cracked causing slow leaks that lead to water wastage.
2. Collect rainwater using a barrel system- use this water for your garden.
3. Mulching helps to slow water evaporation from the soil so you have to water less.
4. Recycle household water (e.g when you're waiting for the cold water to run hot) and use that cold water to water your plants.
5. Plant in blocks rather than rows- watering a block of plants is a more efficient use of water vs spraying water over a long row.
6. Group plants by water needs- this helps you to not overwater some of your plants and saves water.
Small changes can make a big difference for everyone. Do you have any other methods you use to conserve water? We'd love to hear them! π§
