⚗️🧬🔬 An energising morning talking all things Science, STEM, and the future. 📡🧪🥼

Today I hosted an important roundtable discussion with some of WA's brilliant science leaders on how the McGowan Government can inspire the next generation to pursue a career in the STEM sector.

We know that STEM occupations are growing faster than any other sector, and these collaborative discussions will be critical in delivering the high-quality, high-paying jobs of the future for all West Australians.

We’re celebrating by recognizing Betty Love!

She came to the NACA Muroc Unit in 1952 (now NASA Armstrong) to work as a computer by reducing raw data into something the engineers could read. Betty read and time-marked film, transferred data points to paper, and graphed the results of various X planes.

By 1955 she had risen to Aeronautical Engineering Technician in the Aero Structures Branch. She worked closely with engineers in data analysis and the creation and presentation of flight reports. She was co-author on several professional papers and she also became the keeper of the flight logs for all the X-15s and two of the XB-70 flights.

Betty retired in 1973 but returned in 1996 as a volunteer in the center’s History Office, where her experience and knowledge have been invaluable.
