Ever walked out after a damp night and seen water beading on the tips of your leafy greens or aroid leaves? 💦
Relax, you haven’t drowned your plants. What you’re seeing is guttation (yep, that’s a real word).
It’s how plants push out excess water and nutrients from inside their veins when soil moisture and humidity are high and transpiration is low...
Those droplets aren’t dew or pure water, they’re xylem sap, packed with minerals, sugars, and amino acids straight from inside the plant. And here’s the wild part: some species even use this trick to defend themselves from pests. 🪲
So next time you spot those edge droplets, don’t panic, maybe just ease up on the watering a touch and appreciate nature’s plumbing system doing its thing. 🌿

Dug a hole for a fence post today and had to stop halfway 👇 look at this. That white webbing through the mulch and soil? That’s fungal hyphae > nature’s underground network.
This bed’s been rolling since 2013 – 2014 and it still looks alive because the fungi are doing all the heavy lifting:
🌾 Breaking down old lucerne, bark and straw
💧 Building a moisture-holding sponge in the soil
🌱 Feeding the plants through organic matter from seasons past
This is why I don’t need to remulch hard every year, last season’s layer has become a living ecosystem.
Take care of your soil, feed it diversity, and it’ll repay you for decades. Just because you can’t see life happening underground doesn’t mean it’s not there. 🍄💪
