It’s been a long time between posts and you may have been wondering what’s going on at Vault Cycle Services. The truth is we’ve been too busy attending races and servicing customers to spend a lot of time on social media. This year I’ll try to keep everyone a bit more informed about exciting things we get up to.

Let’s start with the AusCycle Road Nationals! Vault Cycle Services partnered with ARA Racing to look after the ARA Junior team for 2026. This team is full of talent and we need to look after them because they’re the future stars of Australian cycling! These girls smashed it and took home almost all the medals:

It’s been a while since we’ve posted—the workshop has been busy and social media took a backseat. But the past week has been something truly special. Having the Road Nationals right here in WA is a huge win for our local cycling community, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless work of local MPs and folks like Chris Tallentire MLA.

I’ve been lucky enough to spend many years fixing bikes in local workshops, meeting some of the most talented cyclists in the world. One of the highlights of this week was my 11-year-old son meeting Sam Welsford who won Olympic gold in Paris in 2024. Sam took the time to chat with him, and it meant the world to him. I also had the privilege of being Sam’s mechanic when he was just 13-17 yrs old, unsure if cycling was his path—safe to say, it definitely was!

And here’s something that’s always been close to my heart: the jersey in this photo. It belonged to Luke Durbridge, who gave it to me after winning the Perth Crit Series in 2011, when I was working as a team mechanic for the AIS. It’s been proudly displayed in my workshop ever since. Over the years, people have wondered why I keep it, but if you know WA cycling, you understand. There’s something special happening here, and it’s incredible to see guys like Luke still competing at the highest level for our local crowds.

I'm now working with the next generation - keep your eyes out for Matthew Connan - Cyclist and Finlay Mcrobbie because WA hasn't finished producing elite cyclists!

It's been an amazing week leading up to the Busselton IRONMAN - so many bikes to race prep and so little sleep. Was privileged to give Lisa Nordén's bike a complete service and race tune before heading down myself to work for Ironman Oceania looking after a small number of their VIP clients. I gave Lisa's bike a final check and re-powdered her chain because every little bit adds up. Lisa did an amazing job coming second but more importantly set a new world record for the bike leg. Lisa travelled 180km in 4hrs, 21 mins, 15 seconds. WOW THAT'S FAST!

We finally found somebody worthy of working in our workshop - attention to detail 👍, punctuality 👍, commitment to the task 👍. Unfortunately had to let him go due to poor people skills and lack of compassion!

We're really excited to be partnering with WestCycle Events to support the Canola Classic for the 4th year in a row. It's always such a fun day in the van offering moral and mechanical support. If you see this van and you're having any difficulties don't hesitate to put your hand up and we'll be with you in a jiffy to get you back on the road. If you've never done this event it's a wonderful day in the flowers! It's on 27 August and registrations close 24 August.

One of these ladies is an absolute superstar with amazing endurance. The other one is a professional cyclist. Well done everybody in the ride WA Crew. I know that most of you burnt just as many calories as the cyclist.
