Super excited to have amazing author Tristan Bancks as the Judge of this year's Great South Coast Young Writers' Prize!

Tristan's books have garnered multiple awards and accolades, with his novel Scar Town named the 2024 Book of the Year for Younger Readers.

His new book, Raised by Wolves, is released May 5 - and is also our Book of the Month!

The Primary and Secondary winners of the 2026 Young Writers' Prize will receive a personal letter from Tristan about their work. Their winning story will also be published in Warrnambool Standard and earn them $750 of bookshop credit to share with their schools.

Young writers, get those imaginations geared up!

The Collins Booksellers Warrnambool Great South Coast Young Writers' Prize is back for 2026 - and it has grown!

There are now TWO categories for submission of a max 1000 word story:

🖋 Primary (Yrs 4-6)
🖋 Secondary (Yrs 7-9)

The winner of each category will win $500 bookshop credit for themselves and $250 for their school.

Stay tuned for more details. Entries open June 1 - so let those ideas go wild!

Author Alex Dyson will be in store May 1 as we celebrate the release of his new cli-fi comedy for kids, THE APOCALYPSE AND OTHER MILD INCONVENIENCES.

This is a ripping little read, as likely to provoke thought as it is to induce laughs. It tackles big issues of concern to today's kids with candour, humour and hope.

So come down to the bookshop and check it out, Alex will have his signing pen at the ready and we'll have the cake!

Our little Warrnie biz has been shortlisted for the Australian Book Industry Awards in the BOOKSHOP OF THE YEAR category!

Michaelie and Graeme will be dusting off their fancy duds and heading to Sydney next month to represent the bookshop team at the award ceremony.
