A traveling salesman walks into a hotel in a regional Victorian town.
"I need a room for the night. What are your rooms like?" he asks the publican.
"They're pretty good."
"Do you mind if I check them out before I book?"
The publican pauses, "I dunno..."
"Look, I'll leave $100 while I check them out..." suggests the salesman.
He puts a $100 note on the bar and heads up the stairs.
The publican looks at the money and thinks, "gee, I owe the butcher $100 for the meat order last week." He picks up the note and heads next door to pay his bill.
The butcher takes the money and thinks to herself, "I better pay the bakery that $100 I owe them from last week." And heads across the road to pay her debt.
The baker happily accept the payment and immediately says, "best fix up the bottle-o for the wine from the weekend's party." And she ducks two doors up to settle her account.
The bottleshop owner thanks the baker, and says to himself, "I really should pay the hotel for my last meal he let me put on the account." And he crosses the road to make his payment to the publican.
The publican settles the bill and places the $100 note back on the bar.
A couple of minutes later the traveling salesman walks downstairs and tells the publican he doesn't like the rooms, takes his $100 and leaves.
When you spend a $1 with a locally owned business, nearly 50c will be returned to the local community.
Thank you to each and everyone of you who choose to spend your dollars locally this Christmas?
