Fishkeeping gets a lot easier when you stop guessing.

Your fish can’t exactly tap you on the shoulder and say, “Hey, the water’s off and dinner is questionable.”

Personal space? Lorikeets have heard of it, and they certainly will not be participating.

This hand-raised lorikeet was meant to be helping us get content. Instead, the camera was taste tasted, and apparently added to the enrichment program.

Different birds really do come with different personalities, and choosing the right fit matters.

Some birds are bold, busy and social.
Some are quieter and more independent.
Some want to be involved in absolutely everything you’re doing, including tasks they were never invited to.

Lorikeets are known for being playful, energetic, curious and very interactive - but they’re also messy, active birds with specific dietary needs, so they suit homes that are ready for the FULL lorikeet experience.

That’s why we always recommend chatting with the team before choosing a bird. The “best” bird isn’t just the prettiest one or the cuddliest one on the day — it’s the one whose personality, care needs and energy level actually suit your home.

Reptile setup checklist, but make it less complicated.

Because reptiles do not, despite what some beginner setups suggest, thrive on vibes and one sad plastic log.

A good setup usually needs a mix of:

🪳 Suitable feeder insects - like woodies or mealworms, depending on the species
💪 Calcium support - especially important for growing reptiles and species that need insects dusted
🌿 Plants and cover - for hiding, climbing and feeling secure
🪨 Bowls, hides and décor - because bare enclosures are boring and, frankly, rude

Different reptiles have different needs, so the right food, supplements and enclosure setup will depend on what you’re keeping.

Birds are basically feathered toddlers with bolt cutters attached to their face.

This is your friendly reminder that parrots need things to do, because if you don’t give them enrichment, they will simply create their own "hobbies".

And their hobbies may include:
🔪 Stealing things they should absolutely not have
🧻 Shredding anything that once had value
🪑 Renovating your furniture without approval
📢 Screaming into the void

Good enrichment helps keep busy bird brains occupied and gives them safer ways to chew, forage, climb, shred and cause supervised chaos.

Tuesdays mean delivery days at Aquabird 🙌

Which means if you visit us in store on a Tuesday, there’s a good chance you’ll spot new fish arrivals acclimating before they head into the tanks.

It’s not just fish floating around in bags looking like tiny confused tourists - acclimating helps them adjust gradually to their new environment before they settle in.

Pop in store to see what’s new this week and chat with the team about tank size, filtration and setup before taking fish home.

Dinner is served... For the hermit crabs, that is.

Hermit crabs do best with variety - not just one plain food option and good luck to everyone involved. A good feeding routine can include a mix of plant-based foods, protein sources, calcium options and foraging extras to help keep things interesting.

In our hermit crab setup, we like offering a varied bowl with different textures and ingredients, plus an enclosure with places to climb, hide, explore and act like they have very important crab business to attend to.

Trying to pick favourites in the bird room at the moment is HARD.

We currently have some absolute standouts in store, including:

💙 Colourful budgies - with some beautiful blue, green, yellow and rainbow-toned birds in the mix.

Budgie colour genetics can get very interesting, especially when different mutations are paired, so they’re always fun for people who love colour variety.

🌈 Scarlet-chested Parrots - not something we see in store every day. These little parrots are known for their stunning colour, quieter nature and aviary-bird charm. Very pretty, very elegant, very much acting like they know it.

💚 Kakarikis - active, curious, busy little parrots with no real interest in sitting still. They’re known for exploring, climbing, foraging and generally giving “tiny feathered parkour instructor” energy.

So now we need to know…
