Using a 1 kW B275LHW with a CP470 and Axiom 12, splitting the screen. The low-frequency side shows considerably wider than the high side. Check the 'extra' marlin and baitfish (slimy mackerel) showing on the bottom on the low-frequency screen. The gain on the low-frequency screen is probably a little more than we would normally run, but it also allows us to pick out the thermocline, which is pretty consistent on the east coast of Australia due to the East Australian Current. Adding a waypoint allows us to come back around and have another crack at raising the marlin.

Fishing a local inshore wreck that holds consistent bait schools, slimy mackerel and yellow tail. Check the kingfish at 45 m on the slimies and teraglin attacking the yakkas on the bottom. Shooting with a narrow 3 kw transducer ( R509) on medium frequency is probably a bit of an overkill in such shallow water but it does produce incredible results and lets you know that there’s target species directly under the boat.

The Raymarine Element shooting on 1.2 MHz gives unmatched clarity whilst flats fishing. Check out the propeller marks in the sea grass, perfect ambush corridors for feeding bream.

Black marlin on bait schools. The top picture, we are trolling at live bait speed around 3 to 4. The Marlin stays in a transducer beam longer and produces an elongated Mark. The bottom one is at lure speed, 7 to 8 knots and shows a much more crisp traditional return. Speeding up the scroll speed to around 200% on the raymarine Axiom Pro screens gives you way better definition.

While we were marlin fishing a few weeks ago, we trolled passed a lobster boat working their gear. You can clearly see the trap line running up to the surface. I reckon those big fish marks are large sharks mooching around trap on the bottom attracted by the fresh bait ( usually salted salmon )in the trap.
The transducer selected is seen on the bottom left of the pic is a B275LHW shooting on the high frequency side. In my opinion the BEST all round marlin fishing transducer ever produced.
