This week’s Boss Friday is Sales Boss Marni Mantell. There is something in JB Hifi water that produces great humans and this week’s boss doesn’t disappoint, not only a delight at networking events but with a career spanning over 10 years in Sales from retail at JB Hifi, beverage for Heaps Normal and now food and beverage for Really Good People, a true boss!
The journey- During high school I really wanted to work at JB Hifi, I worked there pre and post the pandemic, then after wanting a change, while also gaining my weekends and Thursday nights back, I stepped out of retail and moved to sales repping for Heaps Normal, all the while opening up a Barber shop, a side business. Now 10 years in, I’ve worked retail, sales repping and now managing Key Accounts in FMCG for Really Good People (RGP). I always knew sales was going to be the main path, so combining it with products that I actually believe in and would buy as a consumer was really important. RGP is a lot of fun, most of our range is led by a story, so there is always a bit of falling in love with products which then makes it easier to sell and support. Hopefully the future brings more yummy chilli oils, snacks, spreads and new line submissions! Funny Moments: Rocking up to stores or meetings and announcing yourself as “Really Good People” always gets a few giggles. Anything you learned: Leave the shame at the door and always think about how you’d like to be spoken to if the shoe was on the other foot. Also that’s it’s ok to take up space, and back yourself always.
Poddy Recs: Unfortunately no, all I’m listening to right now is Crowded House on repeat because it reduces my Sydney traffic rage lol. Fav drink or bar: A very pale Pinot gris and it was the Huntsbury in Lewisham but it’s closed, so pour one out for Huntsbury.
If you were a kitchen utensil: A very large metal spoon to scoop as much pasta from the pot as possible. For the same reason I’ll injure myself and carry 5 bags from the car instead of doing two trips.
