Gong Xi Fa Cai 🧧🥮 🐲 to those celebrating Chinese/Lunar this weekend/coming weeks.
I thought I would share how we celebrate in our household - we’ve been busy cleaning (washing away any bad luck, no cleaning to happen during the celebration as it could wash away good luck), making sure we have a big stock of rice, oranges to gift to family for good luck (and we have already received some too), the girls will receive red packets from us and family, as Mark and I are married we no longer receive them but we will gift to unmarried family and friends. The girls have been planning their outfits - lots of red and gold, Cheongsam tonight (NYE) brand new clothes for tomorrow the New Year’s Day, for a fresh start to the year, Cheongsam again on Sunday. We will celebrate reunion dinner with immediate family at Marks parents tonight - check in stories later to see what Ah Ma cooks up, it’s always an amazing feast, tomorrow we will visit the marae at Te Papa for a dance celebration with all different cultures that celebrate the lunar new year (11-1pm if you want to come along), another dinner with wider family (my parents will join) and then Sunday we will go to Yum Cha with friends and see the lion dance come thru the restaurant (Dragon at 11am I’ve been told if you want to try book!). There will be more dinners across the next couple of weeks, so much eating! Interested to hear how others will be celebrating too 🥠🧧🥮🐉
