Wrapturous
About Us
‘Wrapturous‘ Is our enthusiastic and rhapsodic attempt to encourage people to adopt
‘Green Gifting’ – the concept of positive and sustainable consumerism. Our product range is inspired by handmade block prints, predominantly Indian and includes
fabric gift wraps, fabric gift bags, recycled paper gift bags, wrappers and boxes. We would like to encourage people to reuse the prod
ucts and make gift presentation an
ecologically sound and sustainable affair
The products you purchase from us, are uniquely made by hand, using handmade wooden
blocks. The designs chosen are predominantly Indian motifs, a reflection of our collective
origins. Acrylic paints are used instead of ink to give the product a unique texture and
colour. We appeal to your inner greenie and ask you to shop by values and make a difference. Story
The business is a combined endeavour of 3 friends (Shubha, Devi and Smitha). We spend our leisure time getting involved in art
(painting) related projects. For me(Smitha), the journey starts when I was very young. As a child, I used to save all the
gift wraps and cards I received in a special box which I treasure even today. They are as
good as photographs which bring back old memories. Some of these, I used to reuse by
cutting and pasting on different bags to create my own unique gifting bags or even make
collages. I continue with this practice and enjoy how these wrapping papers can be reused and made
unique and new. Research reveals that laid end to end, wrapping paper chucked away each year in a
developed country like UK would stretch around the equator nine times. Single use of a
resource like this is quite horrible. The recoverable value by recycling is very small/little. Today’s wrapping papers are a composite of synthetic inks, plastic film, chlorine and metal
based foils and glitters and of course, timber. Combining background, passion and research, Wrapturous, was born to make reusability
and sustainability a possibility. Future
Add a service to turn an unused fabric at home or a used clothing into a gift bag/bags. Currently using Acrylic paint which will be soon replaced by some form of natural dye. Exploring options of using Rice paper (rice husk) and Lokta paper (Daphne plant) which
have more strength and durability.
