Together, we’re building a fairer, more inclusive Inner West. 💛 Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (NNC) aims to build an inclusive, resilient, self-reliant and creative community. The Centre provides community support services to the local community and in particular the disadvantaged groups such as the aged, people with disabilities, people who are homeless, people with mental illness, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people on low incomes.

Meet Alex 💛 NNC's Healthy Ageing Advisor, and honestly, one of the most quietly important roles at the centre.

GP referrals. Problems at home. Family issues. Accommodation stress. The things that don't quite fit anywhere but still need someone... That's Alex.

Based in our Drop-In Hub every Thursday and Friday from 10am–1pm (and happy to visit you at home if getting out is tricky) Alex meets people wherever they feel most comfortable.

An exciting sneak peek at something new coming to NNC 👀 Older & Connected is an upcoming program designed for people over 60 who are already out there living life, but want to do more of it, with like-minded people alongside them.

Because here's what the research tells us 💡 the people most at risk of isolation in the future aren't always the ones who seem isolated now. They're the active ones, the community-minded ones, who just aren't yet connected to a group or a club or a space that keeps that going.

Older & Connected wants to find those people, and co-design something with them. If you're over 60, active in your community and keen to get involved, we'd love to hear from you. Slide into our DM's and say hi 👋

Today is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 🖤💛❤️

At Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, we acknowledge the Gadigal and Wangal People of the Eora Nation. The traditional custodians of the land on which we work, live and gather. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

This day is a reminder that reconciliation is not a moment, it’s a practice. One we are committed to every day through our Reconciliation Action Plan, our Inner West Koori Interagency, and the relationships we continue to build with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the Inner West.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land. 🙏

Homelessness Week 2026 is drawing to a close, but the work doesn’t stop here 🚨

This week we’ve talked about the 75 people sleeping rough in the Inner West. About the team out there building trust on the streets. About the services showing up every Thursday. About what it actually takes to move someone from a tent to a front door with a key in it.

This is Homelessness Week 2026. And this is BHOS 🏠

Meet our Boarding House Outreach Service 👉 the team quietly doing some of the most important work in the Inner West.

The Inner West has been called the boarding house epicentre of Sydney. Yet these homes are disappearing... converted, closed and sold off with Sydney’s ongoing property boom, leaving some of our most vulnerable neighbours with nowhere to go.

When Dulwich Hill Lodge closed suddenly, 75 residents were displaced with just three weeks’ notice. Some had lived there for 20 years.

Our BHOS team stepped in immediately and helped 26 of them secure long-term social housing. Against a waiting list of 2 to 5 years. That’s Homelessness Action Now. 💛

Across the past two years, BHOS has supported over 350 boarding house residents across the Inner West, providing:
✅ Case management and advocacy
✅ Help with housing applications
✅ Access to health services and NDIS
✅ Support with Centrelink and benefits
✅ Connection to community
