‘I can’t run hills…’
YES YOU CAN!
There’s no doubt hill running is tough, but understanding some technique cues combined with a strong mindset and a good bit of practice will have you searching for hills to run up!
Here comes in the voice of Coach
“Here are some useful tip to get you started…
Shorten your stride length and aim to maintain an even controlled effort - not pace!
This means tuning in to your breath and body. If the hill steepens and your breathing starts to quicken, you're going too fast, so pull back. If the trail flattens out, you may notice you need to pick up the pace. Keep tuning into the goal of even effort.
When you first start practicing this, pulling back on steep sections may feel like you’re jogging on the spot, stick with it, you will get faster!
This tip combined with an upright posture and light feet will help you manage your energy output and help you to keep running to the top.
So, next time you hit a hill, give it a shot. We’d love to hear how you go!”
