Metallic doitsu koi are generally slow growing koi fish, breeders keeping koi based pattern quality rather than structure and inbreeding pay a large part in this.
In order to increase growth rates in our koi, we do the following ⬇️
(1) Keep the fastest growing fish always.
(2) No inbreeding lines, we would rather outcross with different suitable varieties to keep their genetics strong.
(3) Heated water year round,
Koi generally grow nothing at all over winter otherwise (yes its expensive)
(4) Always feeding more than 2 times per day, koi have no stomachs, they will not grow to their full potential unless fed more than once a day a high protein diet.
(5) Water changes, water changes remove toxic nitrate and organic waste from the water as well as remove growth inhibiting pheremones we recommend 20-30% weekly water changes on small or overstocked ponds and 5-10% on large established low stocked ponds.
