This year, Ivie from Forest Organics (the festival’s creator) is partnering with the Kingborough Council to bring an even
larger event to the community.

Look who just came out of the Kiln!! This wonderful red cuttlefish is inspired by a wild one - see the photo I used. I LOVE that scarlet colour but I will have to keep trying to get closer to it I think. Come see for yourself at The Tasmanian Nature Festival. Yes I think this is an ideal place to take my animal figurines, shell ambassadors for the oceans and sculpture so I will be there with a stall. Do come!

Animals At It by Jill Dawson

With plenty of richly coloured, lively soil, vegetation and sky as background, this piece exemplifies our changing and adapting ecosystems as our homes are shared with a mix of native and ‘new settler’ creatures. We can share, and have fun and food together.

It includes:

2 nesting birds
2 Wood ducklings that take a great leap to leave their nesting hole in a tree and 'fly'/fall to ground
a sharp-eared dog
a snake displaying aggressively
many happy worms
and a large unknown omnivore

The lid is an odd shape so it needed a point to align to. I used the nose-to-nose of my dog and a small Tiger Snake that she ate.

It’s been a while, I’ve been tired. Doing much better now and I have GOOD NEWS!

My latest sculpture Animals At It won a Special Mention at the Art Society of Tasmania Annual show. Thankyou Art Society! Wow I feel so honoured. I thank you all Pottery Pals - Hobart Collective.
The Judges comment was : ‘We were taken with the joyful, exuberant and at times wonderfully surreal ceramic sculpture created’.

It was such a fun piece to make. Thankyou David Ray Ceramics for your wonderful Australian Ceramics online Masterclass series Flamboyant Form, Opulent Surface. Animals At It grew from his exercise to stretch our concept of space by drawing 3 pots, cut them up and recombine then do it in clay. See photo in next post. Can you see the pots in the finished sculpture. Thanks David for introducing me to the wonders of lids and legs!

Adorable..... Dahlias plus frogs

Allison is the owner of the Snohomish Lavender Farm. According to her, the frogs that visit her farm are very active and plentiful. "I have some flowers that line my house, and they will climb up walls and they get up in my hanging flower baskets," she expressed. Allison usually comes across a frog....

International day for Biodiversity Monday 22 May 2023 is a global observance that highlights the importance of biodiversity and its crucial role in sustaining life on Earth. Biodiversity = all of the variety of life.
Variety is so much more than just the spice of life when it comes to Nature and biodiversity - it enables adaptability and resilience in an ecosystem. Things change, everything adapts or dies. Monocultures – like a paddock of wheat – are risky in that they limit the range of responses and strategies that a variety of life can use to repel or recover from a threat such as fire or insect population explosion.
In biodiversity ‘more is DEFINITELY better’.
Climate change accelerates extinctions of our creatures, plants and others, the life of Nature. Act for Earth now. Save Nature.
