TONIGHT (Fri) AND TOMORROW (Sat) 4pm

Traversing the grey area between aromatherapy claims and science backed studies, we look into how essential oils are an inexpensive tool to relax, unwind, inspire, avoid unnecessary antibiotics, create your own cleaning products and repel insects.

Let's face it - scent inspires, attracts and repels, rewires, calms, lifts, sedates, invokes memories, creates atmosphere, cleans and disinfects.

Essential oils are portable, have a long shelf life and make wonderful gifts.

Our sense of smell has been sidelined but is an essential survival tool.

Join our scentual experience by bringing your nose to the party - the one place where sticking your nose in is a good thing!

YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR WEALTH

Health is a state of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing — a balanced condition in which the body functions well, is relatively free from pain and major illness, has energy and vitality, the mind is able to manage stress, and we are able to connect safely and meaningfully with our communities.

Any one of these can gradually slip away unnoticed, or circumstances can arise that compromise them. Some people experience reduced resilience from a young age and struggle with pain or illness throughout their lives.

When we have good health, we should value it as an investment and nurture it so that we can preserve our ‘wealth’ for the longer term.

If we want to age gracefully, maintaining our health cannot simply begin when our back starts to ache or our knees begin to creak. The investment needs to begin long before the signs of decline become obvious.

Constitutional Resilience

From the Jensen iridology perspective, there are five constitutional types, reflecting differing levels of physical and emotional resilience:

1. Extremely physically and emotionally resilient — ‘Strong as an ox.’ These individuals tend to have considerable reserves and can withstand significant physical and emotional demands.

2. Strong physical and emotional resilience.
Good reserves and generally strong capacity to cope with physical and emotional challenges.

3. Moderate physical and emotional resilience
Energy is good up to a point, then can suddenly disappear. With adequate rest and recovery, energy can return.

4. Less physical and emotional resilience
A softer approach is required, with greater attention to recovery, nourishment and managing stress.

5. The least physical and emotional resilience — a ‘kid glove’ approach.
These individuals may be particularly sensitive to physical and emotional pressure and can withdraw or ‘disappear’ when overwhelmed.

When I was studying iridology twenty years ago, I rarely encountered types 4 and 5, while types 1 and 2 seemed more commonly associated with older people. It raised an interesting question: has the resilience of the population changed?

There are many possible influences. Our food environment has changed, exposure to environmental chemicals has increased, physical activity has decreased for many people, and modern life places enormous demands on the nervous system.

Whether or not Jensen could have anticipated the world we live in today, the concept of constitutional resilience remains an interesting lens through which to consider why two people can experience the same demands yet respond very differently.

Perhaps one of the most noticeable changes is that younger generations have become increasingly skilled at ‘using their heads to save their bodies’ — finding ways to conserve energy, manage stimulation and protect themselves when their reserves are limited.

That isn't a criticism. It is an adaptation.

Resilience Can Be Supported

Having a less resilient constitution does not mean accepting it passively.

There are things beyond our control. Environmental pollution, accumulated chemical exposure and other influences can affect our health without our choosing them.

Accountability, however, is about the things we can influence.
Nutrition. Movement. Sleep. Stress management. Alcohol consumption. Va**ng and smoking. The way we recover. The way we respond to the demands placed upon us.

These are areas where we can make conscious choices.

Supporting the body's natural processes of elimination, becoming more aware of lifestyle patterns and choosing habits that nourish rather than deplete us can all contribute to building greater resilience.

The goal isn't to become someone else's constitutional type.
It is to work with what you have and ask: How can I improve myself? That is wealth.

You are not merely your inheritance. Your constitution may provide a blueprint, but you are also part of an ongoing process of self-discovery, adaptation and growth.

Perhaps your focus is your physical health.
Perhaps it is your emotional strength.
Perhaps you want to explore the layers beyond the physical body — your energetic, auric or etheric fields.

Wherever you begin, the goal is the same: to build resilience and protect your investment in your future health.

The Blue Earth Collective

The Blue Earth Collective was formed to bring together a variety of practitioners who work with different aspects of health and wellbeing.

As naturopaths, Marina and I work with physical and emotional resilience through individual consultation. This may include supporting the nervous system, suggesting dietary and lifestyle adjustments, ordering appropriate testing, using iridology as part of our assessment and referring to other practitioners when specialised support is appropriate.

Our resident kinesiologists, Tanya and Kylie, work with the areas of health that can be difficult to identify or resolve through conventional approaches, including patterns and emotional or mental blocks that may be holding us back.

We also have a holistic counsellor, an astrologer and, very soon, I hope, a remedial massage therapist.

Our aim is simple:

To help you wherever you need support to reclaim your health, build your resilience and protect your investment for the future.

Because your health really is your wealth.

Kinesiology has been helping me process many things that were not in my conscious memory. During a balance, Kylie will pull up a timeline of when this event occurred - a timestamping - the event your body wants to work with.

The stamp is so precise, I don't remember what happened at that time but as the balance moves forward, memories start to come to the surface. Sometimes they are troublesome memories, sometimes they are ridiculous but they matter because what we carry we bleed.

I love how our body talks without talking and recommend Kylie for Kinesiology.
Kinesiology has been a powerful addition to my health toolkit, releasing what no longer serves me and giving me freedom in small increments to enhance my overall capacity to give and serve in the community.

Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that interfere with our hormones. They can be found in plastics, pesticides, heavy metals, personal care products, food packaging and even drinking water.

They may:
• Disrupt hormone production and signalling
• Mimic natural hormones
• Interfere with nutrient uptake
• Accumulate in organs and tissues
• Contribute to premature cell damage
If you're struggling with hormone imbalances, fertility, weight, digestion or neurological health, reducing your exposure may be one piece of the puzzle.

A simple place to start is with EWG's Dirty Dozen® and Clean Fifteen™ food lists.

Dirty Dozen – the fruit and vegetables most likely to carry higher pesticide residues. Buying these organic, where possible, can significantly reduce pesticide exposure.

Clean Fifteen – produce with the lowest pesticide residues. If your budget doesn't stretch to buying everything organic, these are generally considered the lowest priority.

You can't avoid every chemical, but informed choices can help reduce your overall chemical exposure.
