Registered August 1996, gained accreditation as an information centre in 2001, while still supporting local crafters. In 2018 a stand alone Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre was opened, separating the two entities (information c

entre and arts & crafts shop). The Arts & Craft shop occupies three historic buildings: the old court house built in 1901, the old jail built circa 1901, and the former Mount Pelion State School building built 1926.
