A few more additions to my collection, again painted by Brian Buskell. This time, Brian has painted an excellent Empress Miniatures Late War British Infantry Platoon for my Chain of Command collection.

The Platoon consists of three rifle sections, each of ten men (three in the Bren Team, six riflemen, and a Section Commander), a sniper team, a 2" Mortar team, and lastly PHQ. All that remains to be painted are a Vickers MMG Team and a PIAT Team.

Some additional pieces to beef up my British Airborne CoC collection, painted by the talented Brian Buskell. The collection includes my Company Commanders' stand (for Big CoC) with some wounded lads, a radio trailer, a signaler, and lastly Brigadier General Sosabowskin patiently waiting for some news on the 30th Corps advance towards Arnhem.

The remaining figures are some Polish lads to support my British paratroopers, including a Vickers MMG team, some riflemen, and some lads with Sten guns.

All the figures are from the fantastic WW2 Arnhem Heroes Range from Empress Miniatures.

Hopefully, the figures will soon be on the table and involved in some action.

Elite Miniatures Australia is happy to say that we have a large restock arriving in the next two weeks from Empress Miniatures in the UK. The restock includes codes from Jazz Age Imperialism and the WW2 ranges.

In addition, we are happy to say that we will also be receiving some of Empress's latest releases, which include the seven new packs of Sikh Infantry for the Jazz Age Imperialism range and the two new codes representing SAS reconnaissance jeeps to complement the excellent Arnhem Heroes range.

All the new codes and restock codes will hopefully be up on the site and ready for pre-orders.

Have a great day

Another great afternoon of gaming, Chain of Command with the lads, Brian, Terry, and John. And again it was back to Operation Martlet, day two, and another attack on the main German position ot the Chateau.

With the Germans winning the last game as the German Commander. (Brian and John) decided to attempt a small local counterattack. Though the attack could have been armour-heavy, the German commanders decided instead to use the additional points to strengthen their forces with an additional two squads (five men plus a commander), a Pak40 AT, and an MMG team (there was no Flak88; it was just there for show).

The British Commanders (Terry and I), in response to the Germans and our loss the previous day, decided to select an MMG Team, a 3" mortar barrage, one M4 Sherman, and a Sherman Firefly for support. In addition, the British received seven additional reinforcements, who went straight into filling the several vacant positions in the three sections.

The battle played out well, with the advantage still on the German side due to the skill of the commanders and the high rate of fire from the MG42s. Let's say it was devastating to the British, even when behind hard cover. Though the British did manage to knock out both the German MMG team and the Pak 40.

But again, it was the German Panzer IV that held the line for the Germans. This veteran team managed to knock out yet another tank, the fourth for the campaign. This time, it was the Sherman Firefly. The Panzer Commander was put forward for an Iron Cross, but it got knocked back, though I am sure the crew will be out tonight painting another kill ring on their barrel.

The battle did not end there as the British kept pushing forward, trying to put pressure on the German line. Soon, an impatient M4 Sherman rushed forward, hoping to catch the Germans off guard with the quick movement, but that was not the case. A German section was waiting in ambush and fired one of their Panzerfausts.....another tank was up in smoke, and the British morale was dropping fast.

The only option remaining for the British commanders was to call in a 3" mortar bombardment.....and somehow this did the trick...just before the first rounds hit, the German Commanders decided to withdraw, leaving the Chateau in British hands. Turn six a victory to the British.....though a Pyrrhic Victory and a near run thing.

Thanks again to Brian, Terry, and John for the great afternoon of gaming, and certainly looking forward to the next campaign battle at the St Nicholas farm.

Another game played last weekend was a cool game of 'Bag the Hun', which is another of those great Two Fat Lardies games. This was just an introductory game put on by our own Brian Buskell, involving four players (two German and two British) battling it out in the skies over Britain.

On the German side, there were two flights of Heinkel HE-111 and some escorting ME109s, against two flights of Spitfires and a flight of Hurricanes.

As this was an introductory game, we were a bit slow, but the rules were very easy to learn, and we soon picked up our pace in the second half.

In the end, it was a German victory, through the shooting down of three British aircraft and forcing another two to return home due to critical damage. The Germans only lost one fighter and suffered light damage to one of the Heinkel HE-111s.

Overall, this was definitely a fun game, and we are all looking forward to giving it another go in the not-too-distant future. Many thanks to Brian for hosting the game and for the use of your excellent collection.

Yesterday, we finally stepped over the LD to launch another Chain of Command 'Pint Size Campaign' - Operation Martlet. Leading Team '49th Inf Div', we had Dave and Riely....later on, I joined in on the last turn for the night. And on the 12th, SS Hitlerjugend, we had Brian and Gustav.

In all five games were played over the afternoon and into the night, with the British forces stopped on their first attack on the Hauptkampflinie and the final attack for day one.

This is definitely a tough campaign for the British players, as the early morning mist really caused the whole attack to flounder for the first two campaign turns. Eventually, the British commander decided to wait for the mist to lift before pressing on with the attack. The first three campaign turns were fought trying to force the German outpost to withdraw.

Eventually, the Germans did withdraw, but into a good defensive position, which could not be breached until the British brought up the AVRE.

The final campaign turn again proved tough for the British, though gain 3/4 of the table, they could not break the German hold on the Chateau and were forced to cede the battleground to the Germans.

In all, casualties had been fairly light with the Germans suffering 7 dead, 4 seriously wounded (including a section commander), and the British losing slightly higher numbers with 9 dead, 6 seriously wounded (including two section commanders), and three M4 Shermans knocked out.

In all this, the campaign thus far has been loads of fun and challenging for both sides...the Germans with limited numbers and the British with loads of support, but with the challenge of heavy mist for the morning of the first day and high rate of fire from the MG42s. However, we are looking forward to playing out the rest of the campaign over the coming weeks.

Many thanks again to Brian, Riely, Gustav, and David for the great afternoon of gaming. Images uploaded are from all five campaign turns for the first day of Operation Martlet.

Just thought I would show off one of our club members' latest completed projects... the classic and much-feared German 8.8 cm Flak from the excellent Empress Miniatures WW2 Late War German range. Empress Miniatures has two packs available, one crewed by a Luffwaffa crew and the other by a civilian crew.

This piece has been painted and is from Brian Buskell's excellent collection, to support his late War German Chain of Command platoon. I'm not sure I will allow it on the table. Still, it does look good and will certainly cause a little wee to escape from the opposition 😂.

Another weekend and another great game of CoC with the lads, this time we are back in Italy with a mean platoon of Fallschirmjäger defending against a veteran platoon of British 8th Army lads and armour support.

This was the classic 'Attack an Objective' scenario, with Brian commanding the attacking British forces, which, after gaining 19 support points, consisted of four sections of infantry, two 2" mortars, an M4 Sherman and an armoured car (in addition, there was a pre-game barrage and a replem point).

The Fallschirmjägers were jointly commanded by Dave and Gustav, and with only nine support points took a red dice, the pre-game barrage, and a Pak40 AT gun. They were definitely light on the ground.

The game commenced with Brian's British lads rapidly advancing and taking up a defensive position within a short distance of the main objective (a double-storied building at the road junction). One of his senior leaders also deployed onto the table to ensure orders were followed and morale kept high.

However, high morale was not achieved, as over the next couple of phases, the Fallschirmjägers' commanders quickly deployed two sections directly across the road and placed direct fire on the isolated British section. Casualties soon started to occur, and then the Section Commander was hit.

With pressure mounting on the one British section, Brian deployed a further two sections of infantry; one was to remain on overwatch for the entirety of the game to ensure the sneaking German commander did not try a flank attack. The other section advanced quickly under cover and up the centre of the table and within easy reach of the objective. Both sections were supported by the deployment of an armoured car.

This rapid advance of British forces took the German commanders by surprise, and they were forced to rethink their defensive perimeter. Thus, during the next couple of phases, slight adjustments were made to ensure the main objective was contested. In addition, the Pak40 was deployed and, after three shots, finally managed to hit and destroy the British armoured car.

With the British Force Morale dropping fast (another section commander was lost), one of their sections quickly occupied the main objective and with a full CoC dice, the countdown commenced....but could they hold it?

Over the next several phases (the Fallschirmjäger had not yet lost and Force Morale), both sides tried to push each other out from the objective. Finally, the Fallschirmjäger went in with a storm of grenades and, on the second round of hand-to-hand combat, overran the trapped British section, ending the game as a heroic victory for the defending German troops.

Well done, Brian, Dave and Gustav, for the very enjoyable game.

I've been a bit light on gaming posts lately, but I've completed a few projects to finish off my Hicks Starter purchase. This included the British Airborne POWs, the Heer Infantry command, and the captured British jeep with a German crew. The PUMA Armoured car has been painted by Leroy Simpson for my collection.
