I just had to jump on this trend friends!

Because really… look at their classroom. 🥹

Bare feet, muddy hands, stories, songs, painting, making, baking, exploring, noticing, wondering and growing alongside the people they love.

WOMBATS, WATTLE & A WHOLE LOT OF SUNSHINEY YELLOW! 💛🐾🌿

This week at Billy Buttons we tumbled into the world of Wombat’s Wattle Crown one if my own stories, and goodness, it was a golden one!

Little hands rolled and squished clay into wonderfully round wombats, forks twirled fluffy wattle blossoms, cotton buds and pom poms bounced through yellow paint, and our tables were absolutely bursting with wattle sunshine!

I love building our weeks around a story like this. The children don’t just hear the story, they get to climb right inside it.

They meet Wombat in our circle, then find him again in the clay between their fingers, in the yellow paint on their hands, in the wattle they create and in their play.

And somewhere amongst all that glorious mess, little imaginations are doing very big things. 🐾

And I have to say… there is something particularly delightful about a table full of tiny handmade wombats. 😂🤎 they were amazing. They did so well with them.

Next week, our little Wombat adventure continues! I usually tell a story and explore it for three weeks as it does wonderful things for luttle growing brains, learning through repetition!

Tell me, which would your little one head for first: clay wombats or fluffy wattle flowers? 👇🌼

The brain works in mysterious ways around here 😂

A little bead + a skewer + a drawn face + a felt hat = a tiny walking companion for collecting nature treasures.

Inspired by my story Wren and the Moon Baby, these little gnomes help us slow down, notice and gather the tiny gifts hiding all around us.

In our story Wren is given treasure to keep the moon baby safe and sound. I wanted to make a craft to engage the children in collecting treasures. Something that isn't a pouch.

Because a stick is never just a stick when you’re three years old.

We hot glued our bead to our skewer, drew tiny faces and secured on little hats. As the story is wintery and has a little celestial vibe, I added little sparkly stars.

I first made a version of this craft with my own children five years ago to add a little wonder to our morning walks.

You should try it too, you will love it ✨️🌙🐦

So my brain started thinking after a morning without the internet or phone lines.

Maybe it also isnt just about the internet, maybe it's about borrowing versus owning.

Social media?
Borrowed.
Your website?
Mostly borrowed.
Your email platform?
Still rented.
Your community?
Yours.
Your reputation?
Yours.
Your knowledge?
Yours.
Your books?
Yours.
Your relationships?
Yours.

I am old enough to remember life that had zero internet, I found my jobs, my apartment and community events via word of mouth or the humble news paper. Even flyers with those little tabs to rip off phone numbers. We have moved so far away from real life networking. Are we really now competley removed from it?

This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately.
One of the questions I've been asked most over the years is, about my playgroup fees.

Honestly, I think it's a really fair question.

I can only speak from my own experience, but behind Billy Buttons is one woman, one family and one little dream that has slowly grown into the community it is today.

Many people don't see the hundreds of quiet hours that happen before a playgroup morning arrives. The stories written and practised. The seasonal planning. The craft remade until little hands can genuinely enjoy it. The bread baked, the flowers gathered, the late-night emails, the insurance, bill, washing, the learning, the dreaming and all of the invisible jobs that somehow become one beautiful morning together.

Billy Buttons has never received funding or the support of a larger organisation. Every season we've shared together has been made possible because families have chosen to invest in this little community, and I don't think I'll ever stop feeling grateful for that.

When a family books a term with us, I don't think they're simply paying for a playgroup.

I think they're investing in childhood. For the cost of a cuppa and cake date.

And in return they are receiving community. Connection. And a place where children are deeply known and mothers are warmly held.

And perhaps, just as importantly, they're choosing to support a family and a small business that believes these kinds of spaces are worth creating.

Our communities need places like this. And they need the people brave enough to keep creating them.

Our circle has spaces available this term, link in bio ✨️

Oh, Hi friends! 👋
Our circle is open for Term Three!! Hip, hip, hooray! 🥳

You have been asking for quite some time, and I promise I have been listening. The thing is, this whole darling little community is run by one set of hands, so I've been incredibly mindful of my space-holding abilities.

And then sometimes... you simply have to listen to what keeps coming up.

Introducing Thursdays at Billy Buttons! 🤍

I'm so excited to be opening a brand new Thursday circle, and Baby Buttons is also returning on a fortnightly rhythm. Bookings will be available soon.

If you've been patiently waiting for a place, this is your invitation.

✨ Thursday Circle's bookings are now live via the website.

If websites aren't your thing, or you have any questions at all, just pop into my DMs. I'm always happy to help or process your booking manually.

I honestly can't wait to welcome some beautiful new families into our little village this term.

"What can I expect at Baby Buttons?"

I'm so glad you asked.

Baby Buttons is much more than a mothers' group. It's a gentle, holistic space created for both you and your baby. We keep our circle intentionally small so that everyone feels seen, conversations can flow naturally, and genuine friendships have room to grow.

There are no expectations here.

Your baby might sleep through the entire session. They might feed the whole time, want endless cuddles, or happily explore the room. Every stage is welcome, and every baby is different.

Together we'll share simple songs and gentle rhymes, enjoy a seasonal craft or activity, sip something warm, and spend time connecting with other mums who are walking a similar path.

It's slow. It's unhurried.

Many mums tell me they come for their babies, but they keep coming because of the community they find.

If you've been longing for a little village, we'd love to welcome you into ours.

We have space for Tomorrow’s session!!

Send me a DM to secure your spot for Tomorrow’s session more information can be found in the link below:

thought it might be fun to share a little day in the life with you.

I’m Heidi, a 43 year old mum of two beautifully wild boys, nine and eleven, living in a small country town where the wind moves through the gum trees and everyone seems to know everyone.

My days are a patchwork of things I love. I’m Waldorf trained and run a small seasonal playgroup where we follow the rhythms of nature… baking bread, telling stories, singing songs, watching the children grow in their own gentle time. It’s one of the greatest joys of my life.

But my life isn’t just playgroup.

Some days start with sourdough bubbling away on the bench and a quick wander around the garden to see what’s growing. Some days start with me looking for my keys for ten minutes while the boys are already halfway out the door.

I write. I coach other women. I help mothers find rhythm in their homes so life feels a little softer and a little less rushed.

In between all of that there are school lunches, muddy boots, laundry piles that seem to multiply overnight, and the constant soundtrack of two energetic boys who are either building something, wrestling something, or eating something.

We live on a big block of land and I’m slowly learning the art of homesteading. Think sourdough experiments, hopeful vegetable patches, and chickens arriving at Easter (which we are all very excited about).

I’ve always been someone who believes abundance doesn’t come from having more.

It comes from noticing more.

A warm loaf of bread.
Children playing outside until the light fades.
A cup of tea in a quiet moment.
The rhythm of an ordinary day done well.

Anyway, this little carousel is just a glimpse into what my days look like at the moment.

I’d love to know…
what does a typical day in your life look like right now?
