Ta-daaa! Feast your eyes on our newly refurbished Antiques and Collectables department!

Remember the saga? The moving of very heavy things? The "no promises" refurb? Well, it's DONE, and look at it. Gleaming glass cabinets, treasures displayed like the little stars they are, and a whole department that finally does our lovely collectables justice. We're a bit emotional, honestly.

From vintage curios to proper collectables, everything now has the stage it deserves. It's less "dusty corner" and more "ooh, is this a museum?" (We checked. It's still an op shop. You can touch things.)

The standard of the display has gone up, but the prices absolutely have NOT. Same lovely bargains, now with significantly better shelving. You're welcome.

Introducing... THE RUMMAGE ROOM. (Cue dramatic music.)

Now, let's be honest right up front: this is not our most glamorous space. There are no chandeliers. The decor is best described as "1990s office space". But what it lacks in sparkle, it more than makes up for in STUFF, because this room is absolutely brimming with clothes just waiting for a good home.

And the prices?
Adults: $5 each, or 3 for $12
Kids, tweens and teens: just $1

So don't let the humble (and a tad grim) surroundings fool you. Roll up your sleeves, embrace the rummage, and come away with an armful of bargains. Beauty is only skin deep, but a $5 frock is forever. 💚

🎉 It's World Op Shop Day, and we are NOT about to be outdone!

This Saturday 17 October, in honour of the greatest day on the thrifting calendar, everything in store is 50% OFF. Yes, everything. We saw the big chains gearing up (looking at you, Vinnies) and thought, oh it's ON. Anything you can do, we can do at half price with a dragonfly on it.

So come celebrate the noble art of the op shop the way it was meant to be celebrated: by walking out with an armful of treasure and change to spare. Rescue a bargain, support Coasties living with disability, and help us show the big names how it's done.

A couple of housekeeping notes, because we're nothing if not organised (sometimes):

🚫 Donations are closing on Saturday and for the week after, so we can get back on top of things. Please hold onto your treasures until we reopen the donation shed.

And the antiques department refurb? We're hoping, HOPING, it'll be finished and sparkling in time for the big day. But in the finest Fairhaven tradition, we're making absolutely no promises. We're working as fast as our little hands can manage. Cross everything.

The Green Pathways plants have packed their pots and gone on a road trip to shake their stuff at Woytopia today. And they're looking stunning. Not a droopy leaf in sight.

A huge round of applause to Eileen and the Green Pathways team, who are absolute legends. Thank you for growing such gorgeous plants. 💚

We're making a clean sweep in the antiques department!

Our Op Shop will be CLOSED on Monday 12 October while we give the antiques department a proper refurbishment. We're a bit sad to shut the doors even for a day, but we'll be shuffling some very large, very heavy bits of furniture around, and a shop floor full of moving bookcases is nobody's idea of a safe browse. Your shins will thank us!

So we're doing it the sensible way, with the doors shut.

The good news? It'll all be worth it. The antiques department is going to be a proper treat when we've finished everything.

We'll be back open on Tuesday 13 October, although the work in the antiques department will be ongoing for the time being.

😴 Shhh. Do you hear that? That's the sound of absolutely nothing... but not quite yet!

First things first: we're still OPEN today and Sunday, so you've got the whole weekend to come browse the racks, grab a bargain and say hello before we put our feet up. Make the most of us while you can!

Because come Monday 5 October, we'll be CLOSED for the public holiday. Our wonderful staff, volunteers and supported employees have more than earned a day of relaxation. They are the champions who sort your donations, wrangle the racks, water the plant nursery, man the registers and keep this whole glorious operation humming. For one blissful day, the only thing they'll be lifting is a cup of tea.

And me? I will be horizontal. Possibly for the entire 24 hours. If you need me, I'll be the one who has fused with the sofa, pretending I don't know what a spreadsheet is. Do not disturb unless you're bringing snacks!

The racks will still be here Tuesday, rested and raring to go. The bargains aren't going anywhere, promise.

So pop in this weekend, then enjoy your holiday Monday, put your own feet up, and we'll see you back at the Op Shopping Village on Tuesday, refreshed and ready to do it all again. 💚

🌱 Green thumbs assemble!

Look at these beauties. Fairhaven's Green Pathways Nursery trainees have been hard at work, and the results have officially spilled out onto the trolleys at our Op Shop. We're talking tomatoes galore: Green Zebra, Orange Cherry, and the gloriously named Wapsipinicon Peach, all lovingly grown and ready to move into your veggie patch.

And these aren't just any plants. Every one was proudly grown by our Green Pathways Program trainees, so when you take one home you're supporting some genuinely brilliant people learning real skills. Bargain AND a good deed, our favourite combination.

Now, full disclosure: I am not qualified to comment on plants, because I even killed a cactus. A cactus. The plant famous for surviving on neglect and the occasional harsh glare. Our trainees, meanwhile, are out here raising tomatoes like proud plant parents!

So come grab a plant or three, pop them in the ground, and enjoy the fruits (literally) of their hard work. Prices are as marked, just pay inside the Op Shop.

What a lovely day out we had!

We packed up some of our finest treasures and took the show on the road for a pop-up at Orana BaptistCare in Point Clare, and what a treat it was. Handmade cards, pretty trinkets, hats and scarves, all laid out and looking their best.

The real highlight was meeting the wonderful residents. They were an absolute delight. A pop-up is only as good as the people who come and have a browse, and they set the bar very high.

A huge thank you to everyone at Orana BaptistCare for having us. You made us feel so welcome.

And last but never least, a massive thank you to our fabulous volunteers Chris and Christina, pictured here holding down the fort like the champions they are. Setting up, chatting, packing down, and doing it all with a smile. We genuinely could not have done it without you, and we wouldn't want to try. 💚

☀️ The weather is warming up, and we have racks and racks of summer clothes ready to rescue you from the heat. Dresses, shorts, breezy shirts, the lot.

Here's the damage, and honestly it barely qualifies as damage:
Adults: $5 each, or 3 items for $12
Teens, tweens and kids: just $1

Meanwhile, spare a thought for me, sweltering away in my office where the air con hasn't been hooked up since the roof works. I am writing this to you from what can only be described as a slow-roast setting. If you spot a puddle-shaped manager melting gently around the place, do say hello. I'll be the one fanning myself with a $1 kids' t-shirt and questioning my life choices.

But you? You must come on down and grab a bargain. At least one of us should be comfortable in this heat!

We've taken on a new volunteer at the op shop, and honestly the interview process was very short because he just... showed up and started work.

He's doing a great job patrolling the plant nursery, inspecting the seedlings, and striking a dramatic pose whenever anyone reaches for a camera. No pay, no roster, he's here purely for the vibes and the occasional passing insect.

And on the subject of volunteers... our human roles come with slightly more initial paperwork but equally good company. If you'd love to join our team (scales optional), we'd be delighted to hear from you. Just email [email protected] and we'll take it from there. 💚
