Apparently, the best part of making coral art isn’t actually making the coral. 😂

It’s getting your hands gloriously messy swirling paint around to make the ocean.

Every single one of our little artists declared it their favourite part of the lesson.

And honestly? I get it.

We made some pretty spectacular colourful coral artworks, but I love that what they’ll probably remember most is the feeling of making them.

That’s why we love process art. The finished piece is wonderful, but the fun happens along the way. 🩷

Today, a student’s papier-mâché pig imploded. 🐷💔

And my heart sank.

Because when you’ve spent weeks making something, watching it fall apart is genuinely disappointing.

And I never quite know how a child is going to react.

We don’t rush to tell them it’s fine. Because sometimes it isn’t fine. Sometimes it’s really annoying, and frustrating, and disappointing.

We acknowledge that first.

And when they’re ready, we talk about what happened. What might we do differently next time?

Because that’s what making art is.

We try things. Sometimes they work. Sometimes they spectacularly don’t. And then we figure out another way.

And yes, I gave this student one of my backup pigs so they could still finish their project. Because learning to handle disappointment doesn’t mean they have to miss out on the joy of finishing something they’re proud of.

At The Colour Club, we’re not just making art. We’re learning how to be makers.

And sometimes that means starting again. 💗

How do you handle it when your child’s creative project goes spectacularly wrong?

Turns out being good at teaching kids to trust the process doesn’t automatically make you good at trusting your own. 😂

I’m teaching myself textured art because I’ve got a little idea for some Christmas workshops at The Colour Club.

In my head? Gorgeous, colourful, textured pots.

In reality? A lot of experimenting, some questionable palette knife decisions and a very healthy reminder of what it feels like to be a beginner.

But I’m having SO much fun learning something new.

And if there’s one thing I tell the kids every week, it’s that you don’t have to be good at something to enjoy making it.

Apparently I needed that reminder myself (and I think the practice is helping!)

More practising to come. 🌸

I KNOW. We’ve only just started Term 4. 😂

But hear me out…

What if this year, instead of panic-buying a teacher gift in December, your kiddo could MAKE something genuinely cool?

Something their teacher might actually want to keep.

We’ve got a very special little workshop coming, and we’re keeping the finished creation under wraps for now. 👀

Details and bookings dropping late next week!

One less thing for your December brain to worry about. 💛

A little bit of childhood nostalgia made its way into The Colour Club this week. 🐷❤️

When I was a kid, making a papier-mâché piggy bank was practically a school holiday rite of passage. A balloon, some newspaper, a bucket of glue and the patience of a saint waiting for it all to dry.

And I LOVED it.

So this week, it was the next generation’s turn to discover the wonderfully messy world of papier-mâché.

Our younger Makers started making their very own piggies, while our older Makers were given the challenge of designing and constructing an animal of their choice.

There was a LOT of problem-solving involved. How do you make legs stay on? What can you use for ears? How do you turn a balloon into an actual animal?

And, of course, there was glue. So. Much. Glue. 😂

They’re still very much works in progress, but I already can’t wait to see what they become.

Here’s to passing on the childhood crafts we loved to a whole new generation of messy little makers. 💕

I have built an entire business around encouraging kids to let go of perfectionism.

Anyway, here’s me making 400 gem packets for the business awards and quietly redoing the ones my daughter helped with because they weren’t quite right. 🙃

The self-awareness is there. The personal growth is apparently still loading.

Please tell me I’m not the only person who gives excellent advice they absolutely cannot follow. 💎

Stained glass for Halloween? Without the glass? 👻✨

Turns out all you need is an IKEA frame, some Sharpies and a bit of kitchen foil!

We made these at The Colour Club this week and I’m a little bit obsessed with how they turned out.

Here’s how:

🎃 1. Peel ONE side of the protective film off the clear front of an IKEA frame. Trace your favourite Halloween picture with black Sharpie.

🌈 2. Colour it in. More colour = more magic.

✨ 3. Gently scrunch some kitchen foil, flatten it back out and wrap it around the frame’s backing board.

👻 4. Peel off the remaining protective film and pop everything back into the frame.

And there you have it! Sparkly, stained-glass-inspired Halloween art, without a single piece of glass.

Who knew kitchen foil could look this fancy?!

SAVE this one for a little Halloween making. 🧡

We gave our Mini Makers the viral lantern craft and they took a few creative liberties. 😂

More colour. More stickers. More EVERYTHING.

And that’s exactly how we like it.

Our littlest makers aren’t here to recreate Pinterest. They’re here to explore materials, make decisions and see what happens when their big ideas meet tiny hands.

Personally, I think the toddlers nailed it. 🩷

Creative thinking. Problem solving. Decision making. Resilience. Confidence.

And not a single paint-covered dining table at your house.

You’re welcome. 😂

🎨 Term 4 art classes at The Colour Club Studios are now booking.

All the creative freedom. None of the clean-up.

I didn’t have much money when I opened The Colour Club. But I did have a vision, a car, and a fairly questionable willingness to drive long distances for secondhand furniture. 😂

So I collected things. From verge collections, closing businesses, Remida, and anywhere else I could find something that deserved a second life.

I sanded. I painted. I made approximately 400 trips back and forth carrying things I probably should have asked someone to help me lift.

Some things are a little wonky. Some are a complete pain in the ass to maintain.

But they’re all part of the story of this little studio.

And I love that the things other people no longer needed are now the things we use to help kids create something new every single day.

It’s very Colour Club, really. Making something wonderful out of whatever you’ve got.

Tell me I’m not the only person who gets ridiculously excited about a good verge collection find. 😂
