πŸ“š End of an Era: Boffins Books to Close 6th June 2026 πŸ“š

After 37 wonderful years serving the Perth community, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors. From our niche beginnings in 1989 to our "Aladdin's Cave" at 88 William Street, it has been an absolute honour to be your independent bookstore.

The retail landscape is changing, and despite our best efforts, the combined pressure of rising costs and shifting CBD dynamics means it is time for us to say goodbye.

Important Dates and Info:
πŸ“† Final day of trade: 6 June 2026
🎁 Boffins Vouchers (Green and Brown): Please redeem by 6 June
πŸ’³ BookPeople Cards (Blue): Valid with us until closing, and at 400+ shops nationwide thereafter.
πŸ“¦ Special Orders: We will be in contact with customers with special order deposits.

To our loyal customers, staff, and partners: thank you for being part of our story. Please come in and see us one last time before you go.

Now in stock - Nocturnals by Frances Whiting

Nina, the Good Girl. Beatrice, The Poetess. Harriet, the Ghost. Cosmo, the Professor. And Hunter, the Golden Boy. In their last year of school, they become inseparable, five sides of the same star, until a fault line cracks between them, scattering them to all corners of the globe.

Now, fifteen years later, Hunter has called them with his conch shell lips to return to the place where they lived and laughed and cried together, before secrets were whispered, and promises were broken. No-one knows why he has assembled them, but there is no question they will go. Because to outsiders, they might be, in turns, a little bit weird, a little bit glamorous, and a little bit dangerous. But to each other, they are, and always will be, The Nocturnals.

Now in stock - She Who Tastes, Knows: A Memoir of Food in Exile and Awakening

Durkhanai Ayubi was born in Afghanistan in the 1980s, and she and her family became refugees when she was a small child. She's grown to see her ancestral lands be misunderstood as a desolate war zone of helpless people, with no history or culture worthy of mention, when the reality is in fact steeped in rich, complex histories of incredible cultural significance.

She Who Tastes, Knows is an expansive history of Durkhanai's homeland and a vivid, moving story about what it truly means to understand another's culture. Through stories of food, family, belonging and migration, the book traverses cultural boundaries, weaving a tapestry of dignity, empathy and understanding.

Now in stock: Very Secretive and Passionate Stella Miles Franklin by Alexandra Lapierre

Australia, 1901. Just twenty years old and the daughter of struggling bush farmers, Miles Franklin pulls off the impossible by publishing My Brilliant Career; a fiery, fearless debut that takes the English-speaking world by storm.

She hides behind a male pseudonym, but when her true identity is revealed, the backlash is swift and brutal. Alone, broke, and undaunted, Miles sails for America. What follows is a wild, inspiring journey: years of activism, deep friendships, exhilarating love affairs, and an unshakable belief in the power of words. From the suffrage movement in Chicago to the cultural salons of Europe, she never stops writing, never stops fighting. Eventually, she returns to Australia to critics who had written her off and delivers a dazzling comeback. Today, her name is synonymous with Australia's most prestigious literary awards: the Miles Franklin Award and the Stella Prize. But behind the legend was a woman fiercely devoted to her freedom, her craft, and her ideals. With a novelist's flair and an historian's eye, Alexandra Lapierre brings Miles Franklin to brilliant life in this vivid portrait of one of Australia's greatest literary trailblazers.

Now in stock - Three Reasons for Revenge by Dervla McTiernan

Three gifts. Three victims. One deadly game. Alexis Turner walks into the police station to report an assault. By the end of the day, she is nowhere to be found. Soon after she disappears, three identical packages arrive at three very different doors: a respected psychologist's home, a socialite's mansion, and a struggling single father's run-down apartment. Inside, each gift is perfectly tailored to its recipient - and each will tear apart the life of its intended victim. Detective Sergeant Judith Lee is smart and experienced, but this is no ordinary case. Someone with intimate knowledge of their targets is orchestrating these attacks. Someone who knows exactly how to hurt each victim where they're most vulnerable. And she's convinced that somehow, it connects back to Alexis Turner. As she races to uncover the connection between three seemingly unrelated people, Judith discovers she's no longer just investigating the game - she's being forced to play.
