The Traverse Jackets have landed, but before they hit the shelves, they hit the trail.

Back in June, we took our new season Traverse Jackets on a proper mish with Fi & Charlie Murray, siblings and adventure athletes, because around here, gear doesn’t get much chance to stay box-fresh.

Built with 3-layer PERTEX Shield Pro, with extra durability on the shoulders and lower cuffs where packs and the trail tend to dish out the most wear.

Now the new colours have officially landed, where you take them next is up to you! Available online and in select stores.

You’ve got mail! ✉️ One last delivery from Fiordland.

After 10 days of bogs, bush-bashing and big climbs, the WTMC crew are on the home stretch. Days 11 and 12 bring the final push of a mission that took them well beyond the beaten track and through some properly wild corners of Fiordland National Park.

Twelve days out there, plenty of kilometres underfoot (and a few under packraft), and an arsenal of Macpac gear that has well and truly earned a track record.

That’s a wrap on Toxic Hut Bagging. If you’ve missed an instalment (or fancy reading the whole saga from the comfort of somewhere warm and dry), you’ll find the start of the full five-part Mission Mail series via the link in our bio.

A final shout-out to Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ (FMC) and the Mountain and Forest Trust, whose expedition grant helped the crew get this bold mission off the map and into the real world. 🥾

By days 8 and 9, there’s one job on the agenda for the WTMC crew: escape the Stillwater River.

Part IV of Toxic Hut Bagging sees the group push on through another properly remote slice of Fiordland, before the mission takes a slightly more leisurely turn. After the hard yards of the previous week, a fishing holiday doesn’t sound half bad...

Eight days deep, well off the beaten track, and plenty of adventure left in the tank. Part IV is up now.

Missed the first three? Catch up on the full adventure via the link in our bio.

More daylight, more reasons to hit the trail.

Our latest summer gear is here, built for long days out and tested on a mission worthy of them. Where it goes next is up to you.

Our gear has never been made to sit still. So for summer, we picked up the pace.

Joined by the Macpac GODZONE Team, we took our new trail running range out for a training mish around Mt Somers, Canterbury. Over 25km, 5h on the move and 1,982m of elevation, we gave the gear a proper day out on the trails. There were tired legs, plenty of climbing and heaaaps of jelly snakes to keep things moving.

Another mission done, and a few more kilometres added to the track record.

A behind-the-scenes at what goes into a Macpac campaign shoot 🎞️ (spoiler: it involves a looot more walking than you might think!)

We like to put our gear to work in the places it’s made for, which means packing everything in, heading into the backcountry, and doing the hard yards ourselves. Big climbs, full packs, camp dinners and a concerning scroggin-to-person ratio – it’s all just as much a part of it.

For our Gear With a Track Record spring shoot, we spent 2.5 days climbing the steep, rugged terrain of Kahurangi National Park, covering 29km and gaining 2,195m of elevation along the way. A few rolls of disposable film later, we thought it was worth sharing a little of what happens behind the proper cameras.

After all, if we’re going to make gear for big days out, we reckon we should have a few of our own.

Ah, spring in New Zealand… The days are getting longer and the forecast is anyone’s guess. 🌦️❄️

It’s a good thing we believe in packing layers for every eventuality, even if our definition of appropriate bottoms remains fairly loose.

You’ve got mail! ✉️

We’re now into days 6 and 7 of the mish, and Fiordland has decided the WTMC crew are looking a little too dry.

There are swamps to cross, boulder-fields to negotiate and, naturally, plenty of rain. But there’s also a pretty good reward waiting on the other side: packrafts, waterfalls pouring off the mountains, mist hanging over the water and a paddle through some seriously wild country.

And when the hunt for a campsite begins? Let’s just say a dry floodpath is probably best admired, rather than slept on.

Part III of Toxic Hut Bagging has landed. Missed the first two? Catch up on the full mission via the link in our bio.
