3001 re-launch: This week Heritage NSW re-launched locomotive 3001 on the 50th Anniversary of the withdrawal of Steam on the NSW Government Railways. The steam engine was built in 1903 and spent much of its life in hauling passenger trains on Sydney's suburban rail network before moving to regional NSW following the commencement of electrification of the Sydney rail network.

The restoration project took 3 years to complete and Locomotive 3001 will now haul weekend heritage railway journeys and star in the upcoming Thirlmere Festival of Steam.
