A DAY OF MONOPRINTING | Sunday 30 August

There’s still time to claim your spot in the studio with master printmaker Andrew Totman. A full day, a range of colour techniques, and step-by-step demonstrations to guide you from first plate to finished print.

Layer up subtle, sensitive prints or go bold with multiple plates. Andrew shows you both, then works with you to find what suits you.

You’ll leave with a small portfolio of prints that exist nowhere else. Every monoprint is a one-off, impossible to repeat.

Complete beginner or seasoned printmaker, this one’s for you.

Good morning! Most days before I start my day, I take a little walk around my garden with a cup of warming tea in my hand, making a mental list of all the things that need to be done.

So I thought this morning I’d give you a little tour of a bit of it…

It’s a bit of a mess right now. The wildlife are enjoying a lot of the harvest, and the pesky cockatoos have been picking the seeds out of my lemons, then smugly discarding the half-eaten remains on the verandah as an early morning ‘gift’ for me.

This time of year is a busy one, when everything starts to zoom ahead after a few quiet months.

Strangely (or perhaps not so strangely, for those of us deeply aware of our changing planetary climate), the rhubarb, asparagus and artichoke haven’t died back this winter. This is a first since I started gardening this small urban block 26 years ago.

This used to be a standard lawned backyard, but we ripped it up and have been converting it, along with the front and verge gardens, into an urban food forest ever since.

It’s been a bit neglected in recent times, but it still provides an abundance of food.

I’ve noticed a downturn in pollination as local bee populations have declined, but there’s still food.

And very sadly, a little while back I wandered out to put our pet hens back in their pen, after a few hours scratching for grubs and fertilising the ground with their poo, only to find that Mr Fox had performed a daylight raid and massacred all three lovely ladies.

All the silver perch in the aquaponics have also died… but that’s another story.

But the cycle of life continues. Spring has sprung, and the native bees will soon be out once again.

Another remakery off the bench!

Repurposed inherited gold was used for this deliciously weighty wedding band/birthday present/anniversary combo.

Just love the feel and heaviness of the 18ct gold...and of course, the fact that no new metal was mined in the making of it!

Am listening to the audio book, 'I eat the stars' (love love love the title!) by while I work, and so much resonates.

It does feel like humanity has reached a liminal point in time...it feels a bit that way personally too...a glimmer of an opening for change.

After decades of deep despair and environmental activism, which never seemed to make a difference, and then more recently stepping up into local politics to drive change, a recent Deep Ecology workshop with was also quite liberating. It feels like different points are connecting.

While I feel fortunate to have found a strong sense of purpose and meaning that helps keep me from curling up into a blubbering mess in the corner of a darkened room, there have been very dark days indeed. There still are.

But there's an acceptance now that was missing, a lightness and a freeing up. To breathe and embrace what we must live with, systemic societal and environmental collapse...but I'll keep doing the little things in my community like , to help build some resilience for the future.

We are all just stardust.

Sunday in the studio...

Super happy with the design solution for these remakery earrings using the idea of a paperclip to help keep them on the ears without extra bits and pieces, hinges, butterflies etc. The tension of the wire helps keep them in place and sliding out.

Really wanted to keep the design simple and elegant. They've been sitting on the bench for a bit (sorry dear customer!) while I worked out a solution that was going to work for the brief. 😬

There's a bit of porosity from the material reuse, but there will be an organic scattering of starry diamonds on the face...so that sorts that out! 😊
