With a “proper” Dilloway album on the way, a new Wolf Eyes album around the corner on Psychic Sounds, and peak spooky season later this month, what better a time to revisit a significant chapter in my Aaron Dilloway listening history, now on LP!

When ‘Medicine Stunts’ originally fell into my ears, back in 2014 on cassette via Finland’s Lal Lal Lal label, our shelves were more abundantly stocked with Aaron Dilloway related wares than any other time in history. We’d been getting a heap of his Hanson Records tapes direct, plus other bits n pieces from elsewhere, and (at least I) still had plenty of appetite for this distinct and absurd mode of oramics-meets-early-industrial basement magnetic tape sound exploration.

‘Medicine Stunts’ is very different from the saturated squealing of noughties Dilloway, and is still significantly different to his epic ‘Modern Jester’ (2012) double album. Ambient would be a disservice but the three pieces here unfurl more so than they do bonk one of thy head. Tape loops with supernatural and kitsch-y haunted house qualities blend into oddly everyday human and mechanical feeling sounds. Is that a garbage disposal or a synthesizer?

A highly effective and enthralling chapter in one of the most rewarding discographies in 21st century “noise” / “sound art”. To quote another Midwest legend, “Check it out”. – Nic

One of Sydney’s most prolific musicians finally dropped off a bit of physical format action for CD Store Day the other week!

A regular around the shop, Zacc’s Slite Incline project is a footwork based wander through the Inner West. Fourteen tracks that travel through the local burbs ranging from an upbeat stroll, to a jog, to a frenzied run. In doing so, everything from hard bop to smooth jazz to funk to samples of his son to a CD-R of a band I play in are pulped in his sampler, reconstituted into skittering mixes assigned to landmarks and characteristics such as the Dulwich Hill Steps, Ashfield Barra dishes, to the Mason Jar bars of Marrickville.

This disc also accompanied by his The Man In My Life EP and bonus tracks that feature his collab with footwork great DJ Manny!

Also dropped off was the lost album from Zacc’s Celica Statesman band. Recorded over a decade ago, in my mind it sounds like c. 2016 in Sydney; the transition in Sydney music from the jangly guitars and songwriting being eclipsed by everyone buying a drum machine (but also the pre-cursor to the kind of devo-core that would come half a decade later). Hints of Orion with the kind of irreverence of The Fugs or Zacc’s old groups Halal, How Are You and Yard Duty.

Both presented in true DIY style as hand-dubbed CD-Rs in recycled cases with oversized paper covers!

All issues of Pages In Blood Zine now in stock! That includes the Cannibal Co**se special and Visions Of Death poster special. Whomst of us doesn’t need a bit more Morbid Angel decor to spruce up the master bedroom? Or maybe some Carcass in the kitchen? Imagine Entombed adorning the entrance to your humble abode or Dismember displayed in the dungeon (if you’re lucky enough to have a dungeon).

Before I take the too long path of attempting to contextualise Krallice to the uninitiated I would like to state that ‘Scour Order’ is a record with the ability to transport, escape, modify my mental state like no other album so far this year. It’s an immense, engulfing album and to these ears feels like a triumph of human creative potential!

Krallice formed in Queens, New York circa 2008. It’s a time I associate with an expanded embrace of and participation in extreme metal, or more specifically black metal, to a let’s just say, a cosmopolitan audience. There’s a certain amount of dialogue and music from the period (insert post-metal, IPA-metal, graphic design metal, true/false distinctions etc) that I’d like to forget. Thankfully Krallice sit above any cynical nonsense and have forged a music path that in my music mind map is situated as near to King Crimson in the 1980s, Gorguts from Obscura onwards and the eccentric world of prog/math/noise rock I’d associate with Load Records, Laddio Bolocko, Hella, The Psychic Paramount etc, as I would Black Metal.

Of course Krallice evoke the transcendent atmosphere of Weakling and early Ulver albums, ‘Scour Order’ being a return to and dizzying expansion upon this territory, but I have a feeling the things that make me enjoy Krallice so much might frustrate proper black metal fanatics.

This (and most) of their records have a very lively, almost jazz-y band-in-a-room feel, where the collaborative unit dynamic and indispensability of each member feels at odds with the individual-in-solitude black metal trope. Love it or hate it, Krallice are unique and relentlessly dedicated. I personally love it and reckon ‘Scour Order’ is the perfect in to their admirable discography! – Nic

Comprising of Steph Hughes, Amy Hill, and Al Montfort, The Truffle Pigs have been gigging infrequently around Victoria for a while now before this debut LP on their own imprint arrived a couple of weeks ago. It’s exactly what you’d want and expect from a trio who all boast long resumes but whose involvements in Dick Diver, Constant Mongrel, Terry, Boomgates, Sleepless Nights, and Sleeper & Snake seem of most relevance here!

Songs that are earnest and personable with their own inherent silliness and sense of humour. Primarily consisting of twelve string guitars, saxes, minimal percussion, and shared vocal duties, the album charts everything from characters falling in love at a bar post-Pride parade to falling through a glass coffee table while perfectly executing a Drake dance to traipsing around the city. One of the best of 2026!! –Mitch
