For the last 21 years my obsession with guitars, how they sound, how they look, how they are put together and everything in between, has motivated me learn how to upkeep them, refresh them, set them up and do basic repairs that most guitarists don’t know how to do. One of my early memories was when I was 13 years old and I had entirely pulled apart and de-wired my first electric guitar. I had no i
dea what I was doing and was sweating bullets in my room trying to piece it all back together. I really thought it was done for good. In that very moment my dad walks in and sees the once beautiful and functional guitar in absolute pieces all over my bed! He naturally freaked out and said “What have you done?!” and me with my teenage stubbornness and not wanting to show him my absolute despair, said “Nothing! I know what I’m doing, leave me alone..” he then said something along the lines “you have probably ruined that instrument and I hope you can fix it...” and walked off. It was at that moment that I realised that I had messed up. It’s almost comical thinking about it. However, my sheer determination pushed me to try, and try, and try and try again and again. I put it together and pulled it apart over and over and tried to play it so many times I lost count. It was not making any sound when plugged in, the action was all over the place, intonation was out, tremolo was all over the place, neck was out so the strings buzzed... I was truly distraught that I ruined my guitar. The hardest thing was that there was no google or youtube back then. So my only options was to ask people to see what they new about fixing my problem.. I even dragged myself to the school library at lunchtime to get guitar books and studied everything about the way they are put together. Eventually I learnt where I went wrong and when I finally pieced that guitar together I fell in love. Not with the guitar, I was already in love with that, but with putting the guitar back together and knowing exactly how my instrument worked. As the years went on I grew in knowledge, received training from some people in the know, and have serviced, set up and repaired that many guitars for others that I am now one with it all. I am not a luthier as building them from scratch hasn’t been my calling, but rather a restorer and re-setter. My aim is to get your guitar that needs love and care and replenish it to the fresh and comfortable state it once was when you first got it.. if not better! I can’t wait to work on yours guitar to bring you the joy a well kept instrument can bring. Book your baby in and Ill take care of it.
