Two of my favourite paintings - both unusually still in the places they were painted for.

The Deposition by Jacopo Pontormo in Florence and The Resurrection by Piero della Francesca in Sansepolcro are both considered their finest works.

Aldous Huxley’s 1925 essay describing the Resurrection states "It stands there before us in entire and actual splendour, the greatest picture in the world”.
