Starting out on violin? Here's what you'll need. 🎻
1. The right size. Violins come in sizes from a tiny 1/16 up to full size (4/4), and it's all about arm length. Not sure? Ask us and we'll help you measure.
2. A complete outfit: violin, bow and case, set up in our workshop so it's ready to play from day one.
3. The extras: rosin, a shoulder rest and a good method book.

No bridge, no strings, not set up yet. This is where they start before our luthiers get to work on them.

There's a small piece of wood inside your violin that most people never see: the sound post. 🎻
It isn't glued in. It's held in place by a precise fit and the tension of the instrument. Move it one way and the sound gets brighter; move it the other and it gets darker.
Fitting and positioning it is fine, skilled work, and it's part of the setup our luthiers do on every instrument before it ships.

We look after schools across Queensland with instrument hire, repairs and quotes for violin, viola, cello and double bass. Every instrument is set up by our luthiers before it goes out, so students start on something that plays properly from day one. We've sent thousands of instruments out to schools.

Meet some of the hands behind the bench. 🛠️
Benjamin and Ryan are two of our luthiers. Every instrument passes through their hands before it leaves the shop, so it's set up, adjusted and ready to play from the very first note. Together with Adrian, who's just joined the team, they bring real skill and care to every instrument we sell.
