With the Kingfish at Montague Island still playing hardball (only managing a handfull of legal fish over the last few weeks), we have spent the last couple of mornings fishing the outer reefs off Tuross Head.

The weather really turned it on and with loads of baitfish holding on the reefs our clients managed to land plenty of Snapper with some quality fish up to 60cm, Nannygai and Morwong galore, Flathead, Trevally, Gummy Shark and mixed bags of other reef species.

The water is slowly getting warmer and hopefully with a bit of current, the kingies will start to fire up.

Big thanks to our clients, some new, some returning, it's been a pleasure having you all on board........

G'day there, thought we'd better let you know what's happening in the land of AWSUM...My name is Blain and I am the new owner/operator of Narooma Fishing Charters.

I have spent the majority of my adult life working in and around the marine tourism and charter industry in far north Queensland, working as a skipper, engineer and fishing guide. When the opportunity to put down some roots in Narooma, this small piece of paradise I grew up in, presented itself, it was too good to pass up.

I'd like to sincerely thank John for his help and professionalism through this transitional period, his knowledge and advice has been invaluable... never fear he will be staying with us for the foreseeable future, longer if I can twist his arm....

My partner Amy and I hope to bring you the same level of service and expertise that you have come to expect from John, although they are big shoes to fill!

We will be back on the water again this week.

Run fast, fish hard

Narooma Fishing Charters will be back in full operation shortly, with some new faces (I have been told better looking too??).
The new faces are younger and better qualified, offering a broader marine experience.
More to follow shortly.
Stay Tuned.

NEWS FLASH - The first kingfish for the season was caught at Montague Island yesterday. The 70cm fish was caught by an experienced local recreational fisher on a trolled lure, also caught were quite a few 7-9kg bluefin tuna on the North End of The Island. Should be an interesting season ahead.

I hope I don't confuse the issue of 'Where you can fish during the current lockdown' any more than it currently has.
Just to clarify - Montague Island is part of the Eurobodalla Local Government Area, feel free to interpret the other restrictions as they are written. Tight lines.

Don't be surprised if you see us out fishing on Saturday, we are doing a 'Johnny Farnham' - one last commercial fishing charter.
The proceeds from Saturday's trip will be going directly to Nick Myhill's family, for his ongoing medical costs as a result of his injuries caused by a humpback whale last Sunday.
If you can't pass funds directly to Nick's family, please use the GoFundMe in my last post.
Sorry, but this trip is now fully booked.
Cheers.

** Below are some details of the freakish incident which occurred offshore at Narooma on Sunday, where a humpback whale landed on a recreational fishing boat.
Nick and Matt are extremely keen fishermen, and can use some help at this time.
I have checked out the 'Gofundme' site and the family have confirmed that it is legit. (Thanks for creating this Carmen)

Please help. Even a little bit will help them with medical expenses.

*Only 7 days to Retirement.*
Justin (see him for your radiator repairs at NATRAD of Wodonga) and his crew are visiting us on their annual pilgrimage to Narooma. Even though he didn't catch the biggest kingfish on today's trip, he was happy to hold up his 67cm king - as it wasnt caught in the mouth, but foul hooked in the cheek.
Over the last few days the kings have been fairly spread out, but most have been caught in the 85mtr depth on the North East of Montague Island (a real challenge if your jigging)&&

Sue from Canberra got her first legal kingfish this morning, the best being 93cm (and fat as butter), which was pretty impressive as it came out of 23mts of water.
This morning's kings had a real taste for slimy mackerel, and they much preferred them to the yakkas.

Today's customers weren't really interested in catching kingfish, their target was snapper.
We still managed to sneak in a few kingfish, and got some very nice snapper as well.
Today's kings were a totally different school to the big ones we have been getting. These were 66 -71cm, and most were taken on strips of frozen (yes frozen!!) bonito.
The snapper had a particular liking for squid strips.
While today's customers were happy with the fish, I was particularly happy for the excellent Lebanese food they bought along - Thanks Kaz & Crew.
It will be interesting if we can get out again tomorrow morning, as there is a strong change forecast. Lately strong change equals good kingfish.

Our run of good luck on the kingfish continues, we have only had one trip without kingfish since late March.
Today's current was trickling from the North, and after a slow start the kings came on the bite about an hour before the high tide.
Water temp is still over 20c and clarity is improving.
