Something happens when you soak in the Champagne baths at Vichy Springs. Little bubbles form on your skin while you are soaking, creating a warm, fuzzy buzz. The mineral waters have therapeutic properties and are said to inspire creativity and youthful energy. Artists have long been drawn to this place as a refuge, to find peace, solice and inspiration. Leaving soothed, with soft hair and glowing skin. It has that effect on all of us. This manicured, verdant property, is a feature of the drive inland from Mendocino to Ukiah. It’s cool, Olympic-sized pool is surrounded by lush gardens and apple trees, and regularly sees visitors float for hours on pool noodles. At night, soak under the stars in the hot tub, fed by warm geyser water that bubbles up from the ground. It’s the ultimate in hydrotherapy and you may leave feeling younger.

This isn’t in our 5km radius or our LGA, but it might be in yours. Northbridge Baths is a beloved nettled community tidal pool deep in Middle Harbour. We’re so lucky to have access to these free public blue spaces in Sydney. Enveloped in a dense backdrop of Sydney red gums, the swimming enclosure sits at the base of Forsyth Park in Sailors Bay, surrounded by the bobbing masts of sailboats bigger than our apartment. The pool receives northerly sun and is protected from southerly wind - the same qualities that have made it a good harbour also make it a good place to swim. Being so deep into Middle Harbour, the calm water acts like an estuary, and is often a couple of degrees warmer than the ocean.

“It was a beautiful day, I think about 27 degrees C. The water wasn’t cold at all, much needed and refreshing after the hot scramble to get down to it.” says of her recent visit to the mighty Bell Gorge at the west end of the Gibb River Road. These are classic Kimberley conditions right now during winter/dry season (peak visitor season). 4WD to Bell Gorge is essential as access can be difficult with river crossings that can get quite deep. From the carpark it’s a 2km hike through scrubby bushland into the gorge. The water is glassy, cascading quietly over the rocky ledge into a lower pool below, which is where the best swimming is. There is something restorative about being in such a dramatic landscape like this. It’s a magical place of great significance to the Imintji people.

The textured red landscapes of Karijini’s gorges are like some kind of delicious layered desert. Hard to get enough of, impossible to forget. These are the top pools at Joffre Gorge, before you get down to the spectacular curved waterfall forming a natural amphitheatre. On the western side of the National Park this lesser known gorge is not one everyone gets to. did.

Up north at Lawn Hill Gorge in Boodjamulla National Park, land of the Waanyi people. The water may appear as an mirage after days of driving through hot, dusty desert of north-west Queensland. But this is no illusion. The gorge carves a serpentine ribbon of green through the dry savannah landscape, creating an oasis in the outback. captured it here.

"There are several sacred aspects to how Australians submit to the sea. First is the way we are drawn to it, gazing out at its expanses, and lie down near it whenever we can. Second is the purifying ritual of plunging, and third is immersing in it and exploring in its subterranean secrets. A fourth may be the surfer's learned respect for its thunderous swells, tides and curling waves." - Phosphorescence, .

This photo was taken in Bronte last week by . We love how dark and wintery and somehow still inviting the water looks here at sunset.

View from the sky over Mataranka’s Bitter Springs in the NT, traditional land of the Mangarayi and Yangman people. This palm-fringed artesian hot spring sits at a luxuriant water temp of around 32 degrees all year. Immersed in a natural setting of mossy green banks and river pandanus, the pool has a swamp-like feel (in a good way). Tall palms rise above sun-flecked water creating shade, while lily pads float on the surface. was there last week.

out at Bell Gorge in the Wunaamin-Miliwundi ranges on the legendary Gibb River Road last week. Floating around at the top of the tiered falls above the amphitheatre-like gorge with 8 month old Jesse. Winter is the best time to visit these spots in WA, when the water is flowing and the weather isn’t too hot. Though Bell Gorge is one of the few waterfalls along the Gibb that flows year-round. Make sure to bring cash for camping at Silent Grove.

Week 6 of a 2 week holiday for our friends and favourite campers Mish & Paul. Went to north Queensland to visit family and haven’t been able to return south to Victoria. Lucky they are resourceful types and are making the most of the freedom. Here they are at Lake Mackenzie in K’gari Fraser Island on this glorious winter’s day. Flat out.

“My community swims most days at Coogee Beach. We range from beginners to Ocean 7 swimmers!” says . This is an underwater pic of some of her crew. “We swim under our coach Vlad of Vladswim. We train at ABC Pool and Vic Park Pool (when open). We normally swim 3-5kms in the morning, up to 15kms on the weekend. Lots of people in the group. Ages from 28-65. Aussies, Argentinian, Italian, Irish, English. We sing happy birthday behind Wedding Cake Island on birthdays, have coffee and Chish and Fips after a swim, record videos wishing swimmer good luck and congratulations after a successful Channel swim.” She’s talking about the North Channel, the English Channel, Catalina, and Cook Strait in particular. Rotten, long, cold, dark, exhausting and dangerous swims to most. And always without at wetsuit (wetsuits are not allowed). Exceptional and possible feats for the Vladswimmers. This is one high achieving group!
