Once upon a time we did something beautiful with 🫶🏻

The bliss of slow days is majestic and we hope you all get yours! Hopefully accompanied by your favourite drink.

Our choice is matcha - kicks more gently than caffeine.

The preparation in itself is meditation. Doesn’t matter if you drink it pure or with the milk of your choice, as long as it brings you a smile.

No Snobbism Matcha Starter Guide🫶🏻

So you’ve decided to try matcha - welcome to the green side
Here’s how to start (without overcomplicating things):

1. Choose your matcha wisely
Go for ceremonial grade if you’ll drink it straight (no milk).
If you’re mixing with milk, culinary grade works just fine.

2. Water matters
Use hot, not boiling water (around 80°C).
Too hot = bitter. Warm = sweet and smooth.

3. Sift your matcha
A quick sift makes it silky and clump-free - totally worth it.

4. Whisk it right
Add a splash of water, whisk in a W motion until frothy.
You don’t need to be a tea master - just have fun with it.

5. Sip & enjoy your way
Traditional, iced, or with milk - there’s no wrong way.
Matcha is about slowing down, not showing off.

Psst: remember: it’s your ritual, not a performance.
Take a moment, sip, and enjoy the calm in every cup.

OJATEA started out of a pure love for tea and adventure - our core values.

Which country offers both? Correct - Japan.
The moment you arrive, you find yourself at the crossroads of the future and the past, able to experience both at once.

We got swept away by traditional tea ceremonies in serene gardens and sipping ice-cold matcha to-go from modern matcha bars - think Melbourne coffee culture, but with matcha instead of coffee.

We truly believe the world needs more adventures and a good cup of tea!

Magical whisk aka Chasen 🪄

This handcrafted bamboo whisk is essential for creating that smooth, frothy matcha we all love.

A little history:
Chasen originated in Takayama, Nara over 500 years ago and is still made there by skilled artisans - each whisk carved from a single piece of bamboo.

Types of Chasen:
There are different kinds depending on the tea and foam you want
• Kazu chasen (thin tines) for usucha (thin tea)
• Araho chasen (thick tines) for koicha (thick tea)
• Shin chasen for daily whisking at home

3 interesting facts:
1.Each chasen has up to 120 delicate tines - all hand-cut!
2.Soaking it before use helps prevent breakage and improves whisking.
3.A new chasen is traditionally gifted to mark a new beginning in tea practice.
