Moments making Kaye
I didn’t film a lot when making this commissioned piece, which is highly unlike me. Something about it felt private. Melbourne had exceptionally warm weather the fortnight I painted her, so most of my painting sessions were on my deck during golden hour, enjoying the last warmth we’ll see before winter sets in. It felt magical.
Recently I’ve been asking all my clients who commission me if they have a sentimental female name in their life they’d like to contribute to the piece. When my client shared her name and the story behind it, something clicked. While I won’t share her story here, this piece truly was a commemoration of a truly special day.
I’m really proud of this piece. It challenged me a lot, and even visited me in dreams (which is always the sign I’m carrying a piece with me). But all worth it, as it is one of my favourite pieces to date.
I love to paint, but this piece is why I LOVE to do commissions. The collaboration is what makes my heart sing and I still pinch myself that people want to work with me.
