Today if you are feeling caught up in negative energy then take a moment to tune into your inner silence. Come into the present moment and acknowledge how you feel, for our emotions tell us who we are and connect our awareness of the shadow or underworld within us all. Light a blue or white candle and ask that the energy you feel be transformed into insight and self-awareness. Cleanse your feelings by lighting white sage, rosemary or frankincense. Move your hands through the smoke as if โ€˜washingโ€™ the negativity away. Close your eyes and listen to the gentle voice within guiding you to wisdom, love and courage. Dear Prime Minister,

I am writing to express a point of view you may not have contemplated before. Like yourself, I was appalled by the โ€˜Ditch the Witchโ€™ sign driven around Melbourne, depicting Jacinta Allan, Victoriaโ€™s Premier as a stereotypical witch, with pointy hat and long nose. A clearly misogynistic depiction of a woman, who in the creatorโ€™s limited view, is ugly, mad, manipulative and wicked, all the things women have been persecuted for through time. Nothing much has changed since the fourteenth century witch trials.

However, what did surprise me was that you also seem to hold the view that to be called a witch is โ€˜demeaningโ€™. Witchcraft is a growing spiritual philosophy in Australia, it is feminist at its core and akin to many animistic and mystical traditions. I understand that the creators of the image intended to insult which is not acceptable. But better not to stoop to their level of ignorance or allow their version of โ€˜the witchโ€™ to endure by interacting with it. The people who created the sign want to demean; however, to be called a โ€˜witchโ€™ is not demeaning anymore. To myself and thousands of other women in Australia, to be a witch is to be free to choose a spiritual relationship that is Nature-based, liberating, imaginative and empowering.

To conclude; while the sign should be condemned for its misogynistic intent, I believe we need to be mindful of perpetuating outdated stereotypes by treating the word โ€œwitchโ€ itself as an insult.

The next full moon in Sagittarius is a โ€˜blue moonโ€™. A โ€˜blue moonโ€™ is the second full moon in the same month. This lunar event occurs every two to three years, so itโ€™s fairly rare as well as profound. Full moons are like cups over-flowing with water: bringing emotions, intuition, wildness and magick to the zenith of our psyche. A โ€˜blue moonโ€™ intensifies this bringing a reckoning within, a type of โ€˜now or neverโ€™ experience. Wow.

Sagittarius magick calls us to our purpose. Itโ€™s motif is the Centaur, a symbol of the evolution of the human soul. Mother Moon in this enthusiastic sign, beckons us to be curious, to try new things, to be open to inspiration and learning. We can feel complacent at times, content to stay the same, but nothing remains still. Change can be simple or life-altering, it can be scary but it is always thrilling.
