It’s National Recycling Week! And at the at you can get hands on in recycling and reuse!
The team collects plastic bottle tops from cafes around the market, shreds them up, and gets you behind the cranking machine to make your own upcycled pen or carabiner!
The not-so-fun fact is that in many local councils, plastic bottle tops must be separated from bottles before being placed in the recycling bin. But bottle tops are too small to be accurately sorted at most Materials Recycling Facilities, and if placed loose within your kerbside recycling bin, often end up contaminating the recycling mix or jamming the sorting machinery!
But this plastic is precious, and can be reused time and time again, and made into durable, useful items such as pens and carabiners. And other things too - like gardening tools from and indoor plant pins from - both also available at the Purpose Precinct!
