I don’t know what was in the water during the fledgling days of the Church Of Satan, but whatever it was, it flowed from the rivers of Hell itself. The level of inspiration was staggering. To found the Church Of Satan, write The Satanic Bible, and adorn it all with symbols as enduring as the Baphomet pentagram is an achievement few could hope to match. We have all copied it in one form or another, yet none of us have come close to improving upon it. Not even close.

I often laugh at the countless pseudo-organisations that have emerged in its wake. They drape themselves in black, borrow the imagery, recite the language, and proclaim themselves heirs to a legacy they neither understand nor deserve. They pale into insignificance beside what Anton LaVey created.

The Church Of Satan remains the benchmark, the foundation, and the defining expression of Satanism. A bedrock forged in defiance and entrenched in the very depths of Hell itself.

There is no comparison.

The imitators will continue to emerge. They will continue to rewrite history, distort philosophy, and peddle comforting falsehoods to those eager to consume them. But the original still stands, unmoved and unchallenged, casting a long shadow over all who have attempted to follow.

That is the burden of every imitator. They will forever be measured against the original, and forever found wanting.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Anton LaVey is that people assume everything he talked about revolved around rituals, black candles, curses, and supernatural power. That image followed him everywhere for decades. The media loved it because it sold magazines and frightened suburban America. But buried underneath the theatrics was something much more grounded and, honestly, much more unsettling.
