We can’t wait!

Have you been thinking about getting back on a bike, but not quite sure about it? Need some guidance around bike maintenance? Then why not come along to FNCC on a Sunday morning in March? 🚴‍♀️

Brainwave Bikes and Bayside Health will be giving a hands‑on, beginner‑friendly workshop designed to help you keep your bike clean, safe, and running smoothly. You’ll learn how to spot common issues, perform simple maintenance, and quickly fix a flat tyre, AND you'll get to meet other local women who might just turn out to be interested in venturing onto a local cycle path too!

No bike? No worries!

The only thing you need is to register to attend, and wear closed-toed shoes. Everything else will be supplied.

Get in quick for this one!

10am – 11.30am
Register for either Sunday 15th March OR Sunday 22nd March - links 🔗 in the comments.

Wow. What a year we've had at Brainwave Bikes.

This year, we’ve achieved some incredible milestones, and none of them would have been possible without our community. To our customers who chose refurbished over new, our volunteers who gave their time and skills, our trainees who showed up and gave it a go, our dedicated staff, and our supporters who believe in what we’re building – thank you. Every bike refurbished, every young person supported, and every family helped is a direct result of you.

After a huge year, our team will be taking a well-earned break.
> We’ll be closed over the Christmas period and reopening on Tuesday 6 January.
> Online orders will also be paused during this time.

We hope the holiday season brings you rest, connection, and joy. Thank you for being part of the Brainwave Bikes story, and for helping us make a purposeful impact.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us at Brainwave Bikes.

On International Day of People with Disability, we celebrate the young people with disabilities whose skills and dedication help power and bring joy to Brainwave Bikes.

The 2025 theme, “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress,” is a reminder that removing barriers for people with disabilities supports participation in all aspects of life, including meaningful work.

At Brainwave Bikes, that looks like:

➡ hands-on work readiness and bike mechanic training for young people aged 17 to 24 with a diagnosed disability
➡ real experience in a busy workshop, not a simulated setting
➡ a dedicated in-house coach to build skills, confidence and routines for work
➡ clear pathways into employment.

So far, 16 unemployed young people with brain injuries and illnesses have moved into meaningful jobs after taking part in our pre-employment support program – bringing their strengths, problem-solving skills, and lived experience into workplaces across Melbourne.

We are committed to creating workplaces and communities where young people with disability are truly included and valued.

It's simple. Don't buy a new bike.

There is a lot of noise telling us to buy new this Black Friday and Cyber Monday. How about you discover a ‘new’ way to ride instead - more affordable, lighter on the planet, and better for our kids.

At Brainwave Bikes, we expertly refurbish quality bikes, giving families safer, reliable rides for less. Every pre-pedalled (refurbished) bike we sell not only keeps waste out of landfill, but also saves 156kg of carbon emissions.

We're purpose-driven, our bikes are backed by warranty, and we're proudly Melbourne.

Visit our superstore in Dingley Village, or shop online, for hundreds of high-quality, affordable bikes ready for a fresh start.

This recognition means so much to us. We are deeply grateful for their ongoing support, which has allowed us to run successful pop-ups and offer students an affordable and sustainable way to get around campus and the city.

Thank you to the whole Melbourne Uni community, especially ! We're excited to continue this partnership.

What a great session today with our Community Hubs Australia leader, Keery, and our wonderful Community Hub parents! Our parents had an incredible time learning new bike maintenance skills. A huge thank you to Brainwave Bikes for their amazing support and generosity — your work makes such a difference for our community.

Want to know more about our Community Hub? Pop in and see Keery...

Fun cycling fact: Annie Londonderry was the first woman to ride around the world by bicycle in 1894–95 — and she’d only learned to ride shortly before setting off, reportedly with just a few lessons the day before her journey began!

We are proud to share that our very own Kieran McMahon has been named as a finalist in the 2025 Westfield Local Heroes Awards.

Kieran founded Brainwave Bikes to give pre-loved bikes new life, reduce landfill, and create real work opportunities for young people with disabilities.

Since launching in 2022, Brainwave Bikes has:
• Transitioned 16 young people with disabilities into meaningful employment
• Saved 546 tonnes of CO2 emissions
• Refurbished and sold over 3,000 bikes, with another 500 donated to schools and community groups

Now, with your help, Kieran could secure a $20,000 grant to train five unemployed young people living with brain injuries and illnesses, giving them the skills and confidence to transition into mainstream employment.

Voting is open now until 8 September. We would love your support.
