WHAT IS A SUBWOOFER?
A subwoofer (or subwoofer) is an enclosure dedicated to the reproduction of low audio frequencies, more commonly known as bass .

WHAT IS A PASSIVE SUBWOOFER?
Passive subs are called "passive" because they must be powered through an external amplifier or AV (audio/video) receiver. In this sense, they are similar to traditional speakers. The key thing to remember about the passive subwoofer is that it requires more power to reproduce low frequency sounds. Therefore, the amplifier or AV receiver must be able to transmit enough power to ensure the proper reproduction of bass effects from the subwoofer without draining its own power supply.
