Grampians Wine Region
Famous for its scenic hike, loved by hikers and campers. Grampians is also one of Australia’s most historical wine region which started producing wines since 1860s.
The region has an impressive mix of large and boutique wineries surrounding the towns of Great Western, Ararat, Buangor, Moyston and Halls Gap.
Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Cab Sauv and Riesling are planted there as well as varieties like Dolcetto, Can Franc, Pinot Meunier and muscat.
Trying something different from this region, like a pure Cab Franc, Dolcetto and especially the sparkling Shiraz which mixes Pinot Meunier with Shiraz, will definitely awake your palate.
Climate in this region is Mediterranean, yes Mediterranean. Temperature ranges from below 15- below 30 in the summer and 5-15 In winter, which explains the style of the wines in this region.
Soil in the region varies mainly in the top soil but with similar underlying clay.
