Just an update regarding recent orders...

All orders have now been shipped, there was a slight delay due to me trying to automate part of the shipping process. I could never figure out an easy way to export orders from the store to my Aus Post shipping account, they don't make it easy for someone like me who has no idea about csv files and spreadsheets etc. Thanks to AI though (Claude), I can now directly export orders straight into aus post, with about 3 clicks, instead of having to type everything out manually. This took up all my spare time and 14 attempts while also being flat out in my full time job to get it right but we got there in the end. This is going to save an unbelievable amount of time when I start shipping the wrecker kits in a few weeks, which is shaping up to be my most popular product so far. So if you forged through all the boring text to get this far, congratulations, you've just seen the closest thing I've mentioned to a release date.😁

Nothing set in stone yet, but I'm hoping to also have kits on sale or at least a viewable version at the Upcoming Ballarat N.N.L show in about 2 weeks. Apologies to those who are way to far away to attend. As for the previously mentioned test kits... I'm considering releasing a small number into the wild, but probably only to Australian buyers, if interested. I need some quick feedback, and it takes around 2 weeks for stuff to reach the U.S and Europe. So, apologies to those who I know are very keen to get their hands on one as early as possible, but getting my feedback sooner means getting the final version out there to everyone sooner.

Just a reminder, I've created a new group, not just for myself to share more frequent updates on current projects, but it's also a group where anyone can post pics of their current or finished projects using my products. Just to be clear, it's all about Wild Hog products, parts and kits. Post pics of your finished projects, build pics along the way, or ask for advice and tips on how to complete your builds. I'd love to see your builds and get some feedback on my stuff so I can see if any improvements can be made. I'll also be posting more frequent updates of my own designs and build projects, so as not to spam up this page as much, so if you're following here for updates, feel free to head over to the new group.

Happy Toyz kits, back in stock after a long break. Apparently the recent wrecker posts attracted a few new people to the page who didn't know these were available. Get em while they're hot, before they run out and force me to re-stock again. 😁

Pre-orders have all been shipped, leaving more kits in stock now and some more on the way so I hopefully don't have to re-stock again while the wrecker goes into production as I have run out of room and that's going to be a big one...

Kits available here: https://wildhog.com.au/products/Happy-Toyz-Goblin-Truck-c120876064

After months with no orders or interest in the Happy Toyz kits, I've had 3 enquiries in one day, within hours of talking to my decal supplier, saying I should probably think about getting them back in stock...

So... Decals have been ordered and printing of parts is underway, they should be back in stock and available in the store by late next week, stay tuned... Reply to this post if you're interested, so I can get an idea on numbers required because I'm nearly ready to go into production on the wreckers, which will have all my printers going around the clock for quite a while.

First (almost) full test build of the wrecker. 1/25 scale. This is about my 4th attempt so far, as I tweak the design and fitting of parts, to see what fits, what works and what doesn't. So far, so good.

As you can see, it's a mix of FDM (plastic) and resin prints. The FDM requires a bit more sanding than resin, but it's lighter and doesn't warp as easily. It holds it's shape a lot better, so I've used it on the large body parts, the main rotator platform and the telescopic boom. The main body is made up of 5 parts.

It looks a bit rough still, but improvements have been made, most of what you see here are final parts although there's still some bits missing, including the bits I accidentally broke while building this. 🙄

There's a lot of moving parts, mostly relying on hydraulic rams, so I wanted to try and get them a bit tight, to hold position when raised or lowered, but that's going to mess up the paint, mostly the silver/chrome on the rams. I've found it's easy enough to just wrap a bit of tape around the inner ram to stiffen it a bit, and a lot of people will just want to build a static display anyway, so how you deal with that will be up to you.

Still on the "To Do" list:

Internal mechanism for hinged doors, which I'll give up on if it turns out too fiddly, but will make it easy enough for you to add your own.

Work lights and any other lighting like brake lights, flashing beacon light bar etc.

Hooks and shackles etc.

Winches need fixing... the drums rotate, and have stops so they can be tightened and cables won't droop but they're hard to get at so I need to work that out.

Extra hardware, D shackles, spreader bar, hooks etc to fill the storage cabinets.

Instructions... not looking forward to those, but have an idea on how to tackle it.

I will possibly release an early "test build" version, to get some feedback on build-ability etc and maybe tweak the instructions if needed. It won't be free, as I've been burnt by so-called test builders before, giving them a free model then never hearing from them again. But anyone who purchases the test version and comes back with valid, helpful feedback and/or build/built photos will be given a gift voucher for the final kit or future releases. Let me know if you're interested, I may request to see some of your previous builds.

Disclaimer: Every time I post this in model groups I get a lot of questions from people who clearly haven't read the whole post, as most questions are already answered, questions already answered in this post will be ignored. 😬 I've avoided sharing recent progress of this one to model groups for a while now, as this one has taken way longer than first anticipated, but the end is in sight now, so I'm putting it back out there again... Now, on with the long winded rambling.

Major milestone reached on the heavy wrecker, It "looks" finished. Still a bit to do, as this project has evolved over the years as I learnt more and more about modeling in 3D, I've had to go back and redesign some parts that were designed poorly, but there isn't long to go.

Test printing is already underway and it's already looking way nicer than the clunky old test print I still have from 3 or so years ago when I first started. First basic test print of the rotator and boom has already shown a couple of things I missed, second test print underway. I should have a full rotator test before the end of the weekend.

As far as modeling goes, there's just a bit of fine tuning and small details to go... Lights, hooks and other hardware, and trying to decide what to use as cable, which I will include in the kit. Most likely a braided fishing line.

Now, to try and answer questions before they're asked:

It's loosely based on a Century 1150 but not from measurements, a lot of it was done by eye, looking at photos and a maintainence manual.

It will be sold as a kit when it's ready, in multiple scales, but I haven't decided which ones yet. 1/25 is first.

I do not have a completion date yet, and I do not have a price, those will be decided when I know exactly what it takes to put a kit together. After test prints are sorted, I need to create instructions.

This will not be suitable for absolute beginners, it will require some modeling skills and fine tuning to put together. I could make it perfect but that will just cost more time and money.

Almost everything will work, but there will be an easier option. Booms, outriggers etc, everything extends and retracts. Doors can be opened, all the D shackles can swing, the winches will work. There will be optional "spares" sets to add to the kit, so you can decorate / set up the storage cabinets etc if you want to go that far.

No, I don't sell files so you can print your own.

Yes I will ship worldwide, as I always have with my other products.

This is designed to be placed on a donor chassis, such as the cheap revell ones etc, but eventually I will look into doing a 1/14 for the R/C guys, but making all the booms retract, winches etc by remote control, that's something you can figure out yourself.

I will also add a couple more versions, like a 2 axle setup if you don't want to mess around customising a tri axle chassis, I also plan to do a simple wrecker with just the knee boom and no rotator.

If you're still reading and have been following this build for years, yes it's been that long, thanks for your patience, we're nearly there.

Back from holidays, got a ton of stuff to do but first day back, all I had the headspace for was some design work on the PC...

Main boom and rotator assembly are nearly complete, then it's on to the 2 boom extensions.

Again, I haven't based this on any particular version, but it's mostly based on a Century 1150, using various parts I like the look of in the reference photos of different models. Getting close to a test print/build of the whole rotator.

The seconds kits are pretty much the same as the full kit but some of the FDM (plastic) parts may have some minor blemishes from printing. They just require a little extra putty and sanding but will still build into a full Jet Blast Deflector. All the resin parts are fine, no blemishes. I just found a heap of misprinted parts when moving house so I figured they might appeal to someone who doesn't mind a little extra work.
